I can't find the thread in the Mudpit about Cardinal George Pell (I'm sure there was one at some point), so I'll just post if here.
If any of ya are interested, you can watch his appeal in the Victorian Supreme Court, Court of Appeal. It should go from 9:30am to like 4pm today, and maybe again tomorrow. Its currently 12:50pm.

The defence are basically arguing that there were three issues with the original trial:
1 - The trial judge was wrong to rule that a certain piece of evidence was inadmissible
2 - Pell wasn't asked whether he plead guilty or not in front of the jury
3 - The evidence submitted in the trial wasn't enough to make it reasonably possible for the jury to find him guilty

Its probably gonna be boring to be honest.

On that subject, check out this great youtube video by Jim Cant Swim (One of the only people I patronize? on patreon) where he shows part of the police interrogation of George Pell and analyzes parts of it. I think he did another video on the cardinal that's not on his public youtube channel and I'll try to find it. All of his videos are absolutely incredible and well worth the watch, and his Patron is well worth the 1$ a month. I'll probably check it out as it doesn't sound boring to me, although granted I am the kind of person who gets excited to watch 8 hours of congressional testimony on C-Span so I'm not entirely unbiased when it comes to boring watching

boyssss! Pell just jumped out of the dock and threw holy water in the judges eyes! He said that they have no authority over him because they think that Season 8 of Game of Thrones was good, and are therefore insane.

Personally I thought the craziest part of Pell's testimony was when he asked to consult with his attorneys and when his request was granted begun consorting with Demons (from the 7th and 5th planes of hell respectively) and began consulting with them about law. I understand he has the right to do that under Australian and Vatican law but it still felt like the kind of thing that would hurt your case in front of a jury rather than help it. When the judge called for a recess you'd have expected him to return in a more holly state of mind and being but as soon as he was called back on the stand he started invoking demons and evil spirits against the judge and jury. I have to say, not a good look for either Pell or the Catholic Church. I'm really interested in how this whole thing develops.

I'd give ya rep if I could. All of the sections they're talking about probably come from the Evidence Act 2008 (Victoria). eg I think they've mentioned s38 and the s135 to s138 discretion to exclude certain evidence.

I love your signature, every time I see it it makes me sad that Barry wont be on again till next year

. I feel cheated with there being only 8 episodes instead of 10 this season. With Chernobyl, Barry, and GOT ending I don't know what to do with myself

I've heard/read that before actually, and what always strikes me from the whole thing is that after all the decades of abuse and accusation at the end of the day it's just these two boy's accusation that sinks him. It feels sick that everyone else who has been victimized by him is just going to be a footnote at best and unthought of and unmentioned at worst. You just know that he's been involved in so many more incidents than what he's being tried for here. You can tell not only from the practiced way in which he attacks his victims but from the decades of accusations he's faced. It baffles the mind.
