speaking of games; any recent 4X game that it's worth trying?

I'm out of the gaming "business" since some years to be honest, especially since after I became a dad, but in any case I was a big fan of various 4X games (such as Sid Meyer's, Gal. Civ, Fallen Enchantress, etc).. so any suggestion?

I don't really play 4x games. Civilization 5 Complete Edition and Beyond Earth are 75% off at the moment ($20 USD and $10 USD respectively) whilst Civilization 6 is 50% off ($35 USD. It was $12 USD last month).

The only thing I can really suggest is go to my Steam Calculator page, and in the bottom left corner click "Products".
Now you will be able to see all the games I own, and how much they currently cost. You can get an idea of how much I liked them by looking at how many hours I played them for, and perhaps the Steam rating.

I haven't played any of those since Civ 5 and Beyond Earth. Civ 6 looks kind of awful and the world leader choices suck too.

    thanks lads

@ Oda; yes I was looking at Civ6 myself, but from what I gathered the reviews are conflicting... what it's certain is that it is better than Civ5, but I never tried it (last one was Civ4 BtS).. anyone else has exp with Civ6?

@ Caligula; Beyond earth looks good, maybe it's worth a try; I'll check around for some reviews

Beyond Earth is a pile o dog mixed with cat . If you do nothing but press end turn for 100 turns you have a very very good chance of winning the game.

Have you ever tried Company of Heroes? well the game is rather different (set in WWII, also resource exploitment is completely different), but as a former fan of C&C like you CoH was one of the few games I really enjoyed. CoH II is a good game too, but I'd rather prefer CoH I because there's plenty of awesome mods out there.

Endless space is a 4 x games (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate); they are stragey games where the map management usually has the precedence over military strategies.. to be honest with you with few exceptions the war part is usually crappy in 4X games

Alpha Centauri is the game you need, Beyond Earth pales in comparison to such a gem.

Have you tried Age of Empires 2 or Dawn of War 1? They're incredibly old, having been released late September 1999 and late September 2004 and maybe I've got its nostalgia (although I did play them quite a bit last year) but they're kind of similar to Company of Heroes.

I don't know if you like RTS or RPG games, but Spellforce 3 is a combination of both and is supposed to be good. Not very 4X-y though.

Just a thought, I've noticed there seems to be a large Greek contingent on TWC, why is that? Are Greeks generally happier to share their location, have an unusual interesting in Total War, or are they just very politically engaged (3 of the most popular threads in mudpit are related to Greece http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...aganda-machine http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...t-on-Imia-quot and THIS one that I never actually followed and has near half a million views http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...3#post15477173)

There are so many because we're either being paid off by the Greek government, and thus there are a lot of Greek members because they're allowed to say whatever they want and not get in trouble with it, or because we're being paid off by the Turkish government and thus all the Greek members are here protesting it and revealing the shadowy web of intrigue and corruption inherent in TWC.

I've been playing Civ 6 exclusively for 18 months because no other game works on my laptop, I'm still not tired of it strangely enough

There does seem to be an unnaturally high amount of Greeks and Turks here.
