yeah, most people are freaking out over a little snow. Same thing this winter in southern bavaria, the indigenous people were totally okay with the 4 meters of snow while the tourist and people that moved there acted like its the apocalypse.
But those -40 Celsius in the USA look really tough.

How come USA gets Siberian coldness?? at -40 you'd need to heat all the water pipes yes? And if you pee in public.....

Is it one of the new policies since last century, together with police aggression? I can't imagine that in a western movie, or any time before the building of public toilets.

There are some people who enjoy getting angry. If they could wish away a problem they wouldn't, they'd want it to stay so they can continue feeling hate.

The houses in my neighbourhood are a bit toned down from Tobermory. The colours aren't quite as. Here's a pic not taken by me during the summer, showing the riverfront

villages with colored houses are common on seaside, I think in Italy we have some 15 or 20 of them; I think they used to color the houses to make it easier to spot the place from the sea when there was low visibility

however, they are nice indeed; IIRC there's a specific tour (a short cruise) in Liguria which will drive you through the most famous ones in the area

as for me I love Amsterdam's colored houses, there are some "glimpses" in that city which are breathtaking

There's one little downside. In the first picture, you can see I'm quite high up. My school is in the centre of town, which means that every day I have 30 minutes of steep uphill walking on my way home.
