    Interested in expanding his house's influence and demense within Devonshire, the Earl of Devon sends out retainers and clerks to the provinces of Hemyock, spreading word amongst the landholders, barons, and others that the Earl of Devon was interested in purchasing estates or land in the province. The Earl also sends some riders to spread the same message in Holsworthy in case he hears nothing back from the landholders in Hemyock.

    The local landowner in Haymock demands five times the worth of the land in return for his estates there.

    The Earl of Devon has the required 1,750 pounds and legal documents for the sale sent to Haymock with his retainers and clerks to finalize the deal.

    In January of 1397, Devon has his retainers spread word in the province of Holsworthy that he is interested in purchasing land or estates in the province.

    Having not heard back from landowners in the province of Holsworthy, Devon orders his retainers to instead spread word of his interest in acquiring land and estates in the province of Bideford.

    A local landowner will sell his estates, but for fifteen times the lands worth.

    Devon agrees to pay the sum and has his men transport the amount to Bideford along with the necessary papers and some witnesses for the sale.

    In 1398, Devon once again attempts to contact landholders in Holsworthy to inquire about purchasing land or estates in the province.

    Following the March Parliament of 1399, Devon, for a third time, attempts to contact landholders in Holsworthy to inquire about purchasing estates in the province.

    Devon finds a favourable price, with the local sire, in times of financial difficulty, only asks for double the land's worth.

    Devon has his retainers bring the necessary paperwork and seven hundred pounds to the estate of the local sire in June of 1399 to finalize the purchase.
