Expanding influence
Beaufort, wishing to expand his demesne in Somerset, makes overtures to local landholding knights, barons, and landlords around the area of Dulverton and Taunton. He makes it known that it is in his interests to purchase estates in the area, and that he would pay handsomely for the opportunity to do so. If need be, he would visit them in person to negotiate, but like every lord Somerset relied upon a network of stewards and retainers to accomplish such tasks for him and negotiate upon his own behalf.

Re: Expanding influence
The gentry of Dulverton send no replies, showing there was no interest to offer their lands to Beaufort.
Yet in Taunton, a certain Sir Richard Foxe, is willing to sell his lands. Four times it worth.

Re: Expanding influence
Though it was perhaps a steep price, Beaufort consented, with the agreed upon price being just under one and a half thousand pounds.

Re: Expanding influence
Sir Foxe seemed rather pleased with the price, stating that the lands would belong to Beaufort the following year as he needed to prepare his move off the lands.
