    Default Worcester estates

A dispersed patchwork of estates, half of them in Yorkshire and the other half on Derbyshire, including Hallamshire, that the earl of Worcester originally inherited from John Neville, Baron of Raby.

    Lord and Household

    Thomas Neville

    T
    HOMAS NEVILLE

    Titles: Earl of Worcester.

    Born 1367.
Status: Married secondly to Joan of Gloucester; formerly married to Joan de Furnivalle, Baroness Furnivalle (m. 1379, d. 1395).
Children: Margaret Neville (born 1384), Maud Neville (born 1392), Joan Neville (born 1395), Katherine Neville (born 1400).
    Possessions: Hallamshire, Pickering Castle.

    Traits (6):
    +2 Survival.
    +2 Wealth.
    +2 Charisma.

    Temperaments:
    Phlegmatic.
    - Empathic: This character is strongly attuned to the emotions of others and cares for them, making them great friends or kinsmen to have - but poor warriors and generals. +2 to AI reaction rolls, -1 to battle/joust/duel rolls.
    Sanguine.
    - Sociable: This character is an extroverted social butterfly, capable of making friends left and right. However, they have little time for 'boring' matters like finances, and are more interested in buying flashy things to show off to their friends than managing their wealth. +1 to NPC reaction rolls, -2% income.
    - Upbeat: Nothing seems to get this character down. They're perpetually smiling and looking on the bright side of even the darkest developments, truly the kind of optimism that can be infectious...or delusional, if the situation is bad enough. +1 to surviving non-battle death rolls, -1 to post-battle rolls (captivity, death, wounding).

BIOGRAPHY: Sir Thomas Neville, second son of John Neville, 3rd Baron Neville of Raby by his first wife, Maud de Percy. Compared to his elder brother, Ralph Neville, eventual Earl of Westmoreland, the second Neville was a light-hearted man. Often humoured by the slightest jape or in a permanent good mood, Thomas Neville was rather a likeable man, quite amiable. Neither tall nor short, Thomas is of average height, standing only few inches taller than his brother; Lord Furnival is also thinner and less athletic than Ralph. His appareance is mostly unmarkable. Married at the tender age of eleven, in 1379, he was truly fond of his wife, Lady Joan Furnival, Baroness Furnival, who died in childbirth in 1395. As he had no male offspring by his marriage he continues to style himself as Lord Furnival, despite having little right to do so. He’ll think about it tomorrow.

Thomas surrendered his title at the wedding of his eldest daughter with Thomas Beaufort, but he gained a princely bride in Joan of Gloucester. In 1398 he raised in arms to support Henry of Bolingbroke in his quest for the crown. His support and kinship were rewarded with the earldom of Worcester and some grants of lands, something he's really grateful for.

Days later after his brother's departure from London Westmorland enters Alton (Thomas' main residence) unannounced, entering the room of his brother Westmorland soured with rage throwing a certain paper on a table. That swine of a roman pope refused my request to annul my marriage to that Jezebel of my wife! Westmorland slammed his fist on the table, he was still a formidable strong man, his voice was loud, Westmorland was by no ways calm.

Furnival had been snoozing, sitting under a window, in a sunlit spot, and covered with a warm blanket. He almost dropped to the floor, surprised.

    "Uh, what?"

You know how much i disliked my wife, it was never a good match, neither in love nor politically. Thomas should know, Margaret and Ralph were too contrasting and they simply could never stand eachother. I wrote a letter to the pope in Rome to annul my marriage to Margaret and he refused, on top of that my wife is proven to be barren and now i am stuck with her. he said, his voice being angry

    "Oh... AH!"

He said, rubbing his eyes. That was a pretty good nap.

"So, you're stuck with Margaret, yes?"

She wasn't such a bad match. Ralph was never happy. With anything or anybody. Poor Margarite.

"Well, you have a son to inherit your estates, what's the matter?"

These are children born from an union that should not have happened!. These children would, if the marriage got annulled, be bastards, still they deserve a good future. You know that Margaret and me are related by blood, we are third cousins removed afterall!. he said, his voice calming down. regardless i have still an alternative to declare my marriage invalid, there was a pope in Avignon still.

Third cousins. Really? He must have digged a lot to figure out that. I didn't even know they were related.

    "Calm down brother"

    Said Thomas.

"You plan to divorce her, right. And do what, exactly?"

Ralph calmed down, the fury in his voice was leaving. Free myself up for a better and happier marriage, we can't run away from that brother. Westmorland said. I don't even blame Margaret for anything, you know it was both not our desire to marry but we had no choice. Margaret may be a good woman in heart but they just couldn't get along in any way, better to end this farce of a marriage. But i am no monster brother, i still want Margaret a good future, just not as my wife. he said

    "Ah, understood"

He said, nodding. He didn't understand at all, but it was better that way.

"And free to marry who? Do you have someone in mind?"

Furnival hoped would be a good match.

Hmmpff. Ralph took his seat, drumming his finger against the table. I heard that Lord Lancaster has a sister who is yet unmarried, daughter of Gaunt and Lady Swynford, named Joan Beaufort. Westmorland married twice his family members to the king's favorites, Holland and De Vere, perhaps it wouldn't be that bad to marry the sister of the second mightiest man in England, Ralph also found out that the Mortimer family interrmarried with those pesky Percy's so that became a thorn in his eye aswell, whereas Lancaster's family did not.

    "Oh"

    He was surprised.

"That'd be quite a good match. Do you think you could pull it out? Lord Lancaster was quite willing to make dealings with me when I visited: we arranged a double marriage, between his brother and my daughter and his niece and myself"

My marital status now depends upon the judgement of the pope in Avignon, nothing i can do about it anymore. Westmorland said, it was his last chance after the humiliating refusal of the Roman pope, he supposed if the Avignon pope would refuse too he would have to live out his days with Margaret, not an entertaining thought. But my dear brother, you have arranged quite the match there, congratulations! he said cheerfully now. Anyways, do you know about that bastard Richard of Conisbourgh asking for the hand of our dear half sister Elizabeth, heiress to the Latimer barony? he asked

"Thanks, brother. Margaret will be married with Thomas Beaufort in due time, God grant them health"

    Said Furnival.

"Oh well, he's brother to the duke of York, who has no sons, so I'd rather grant out sister's hand in marriage to him, in good faith. You could rarely find a better match"

A good match i do say brother. he said smilingly, his brother's fortunes surely would improve with such a match. Hmmpf, i'll think about it, but i'm waiting to see if others suitors appear first before making a decision, and i'd hate to see her lands being stolen. no rush in this brother, everything at its time.

"Oh well, I wanted to stole them myself, so I'm being picky. Whatever, Ralph"

    Said with a chuckle.

"Think those manors are worth handing to York, if we do gain his friendship. Consider our lands are close, better than marrying her to a knight from Devonshire, right?"

Ha, that is for certain! he said cheerfully. Maybe, just maybe, there is an option for our sister's lands to stay a bit longer in the family. Westmorland had considered several options, he always working in the benefit of his direct family.

I will, lawyers are currently working on the issue. Westmorland said, a smart bunch of people these lawyers are. What lands do you desire? Westmorland asked.
