Default Stafford Earl of Stafford Castle

    Household de Stafford
Thomas de Stafford, 3rd Earl of Stafford (c. 1368 –). Inherited at age of 18. Married Anne of Gloucester, daughter of Thomas of Woodstock, 1st Duke of Gloucester and Eleanor de Bohun.
Thomas has recently just assumed the Earldom after the death of his sire, Hugh de Stafford.
    Traits: +3 Charisma, +1 Survival, +2 Wealth
    Temperaments:

    Supine:
    - Idealistic: This person is a strong believer in higher ideals and the innate goodness of man. On the one hand they tend to be inspiring and uplifting figures, on the other they can be taken advantage of by those who live well beneath their expectations. +1 to AI reaction rolls, -1 to rout/assassination/escape rolls.

    - Amiable: This character is a pleasant person who tries very hard to get along with everyone s/he meets. Indeed, perhaps too hard, at that...they also tend to excessively seek validation from others, and at worst can be described as clingy ticks. +1 to AI reaction rolls, -1 to duel rolls.
    Phlegmatic:
    - Reserved: This character is a stoic who generally keeps to him/herself and exercises strict control over their emotions. While this means they're not likely to make reckless moves in court or on the battlefield, they can come across as unfeeling robots to others. +1 battle rolls, -1 to AI reaction rolls.

Roger de Stafford (c. 1370- ) The youngest son of the late Hugh de Stafford and Thomas’ younger brother.
    Traits: +3 Battles, +3 Survival
    Temperaments:
    Sanguine:
    - Confident: This character is very self-assured, brimming with confidence and difficult to shake even under pressure. However, taken to an extreme, they can show a suicidal disregard for their life and the lives of others, and fail to take...well, failure into account when planning. +1 battle rolls, +1 to rout rolls.

    - Sociable: This character is an extroverted social butterfly, capable of making friends left and right. However, they have little time for 'boring' matters like finances, and are more interested in buying flashy things to show off to their friends than managing their wealth. +1 to NPC reaction rolls, -2% income.

    Choleric:
    - Bloodthirsty: This character is hotheaded and loves to jump into fights, lethal or otherwise. This is not something others find endearing off the battlefield, though. +1 Battles, -1 to NPC reaction rolls.

Mary de Stafford (c. 1372-1392)Died in child birth
    One Son William Beaufort

    Joan de Stafford (c.1378-)
    Skills +2 Survival +2 Charisma
    Phlegmatic:
    - Empathic: This character is strongly attuned to the emotions of others and cares for them, making them great friends or kinsmen to have - but poor warriors and generals. +2 to AI reaction rolls, -1 to battle/joust/duel rolls.
    Sanguine:
    - Sociable: This character is an extroverted social butterfly, capable of making friends left and right. However, they have little time for 'boring' matters like finances, and are more interested in buying flashy things to show off to their friends than managing their wealth. +1 to NPC reaction rolls, -2% income.

    - Upbeat: Nothing seems to get this character down. They're perpetually smiling and looking on the bright side of even the darkest developments, truly the kind of optimism that can be infectious...or delusional, if the situation is bad enough. +1 to surviving non-battle death rolls, -1 to post-battle rolls (captivity, death, wounding).

In the waning days of that warm summer did Lancaster decide to visit Stafford Castle, a conveniently short ride from Lancaster's own palace of Kenilworth. Accompanied by a large group of clients - knights, landholders, and petty lords - did the Duke arrive, riding alongside his ward, Humphrey of Buckingham, and the Earl of Stafford's own brother, Roger. They request permission to enter the castle and speak with the Earl, if he would so desire it.

The sun was beginning to set when the Lancaster party arrived at the gates of Stafford Castle. The gates opened and the party would be admitted to the court yard where Thomas was waiting to great them. "Lord Lancaster what an unexpected surprise. What brings you here this fine day?"

"Lord Stafford, a pleasure." Henry gripped the Earl's hand with a firm shake, and then gestured to Humphrey, who stood immediately beside him. "I've brought your brother by marriage, Lord Buckingham." He turned to look at Humphrey expectantly.

"Coincidentally, I am here searching in his name for a bride. I wished to take counsel with you about this matter."

Humphrey turns to the Lord Stafford, knowing well, by his mother, how his late father and Thomas Stafford were good friends. If Humphrey was to advance in this world, he would need allies... allies such as his uncle and Lord Stafford.

My Lord Stafford. I hope my sister has been well and that she isn't missing Pleshley Castle too much.

Thomas smiles and grips Lord Henry's hand. "The courtyard is not place for such discussion. I have some rooms prepared for you to freshen up after your travels." He pauses turning to Humphrey, "Your sister is well Lord Buckingham. I am sure you will see her when you join us for dinner this evening." He waves behind him to the servants who showed the party to their rooms.

It would be some time later when the various guests were shown to their seats in the main dinning hall. Lords Lancaster and Buckingham were given seats at the main table next to Lord Stafford so all three could speak during the banquet. The first course was a roast lamb was being brought forward as Thomas, "So you are looking for a bride for the young Lord Buckingham here? What do you have in mind?"

Henry had changed from riding gear into more suitable attire, though, unlike the usual dress for formal occasions, his head was uncovered.

"A woman of good stock, to be sure."
Bolingbroke replied, after washing down a chunk of lamb with some mead. "In truth, I was hoping to further the bonds my nephew already has with your kith and kin. A double marriage, if you will."

Thomas chewed thoughtfully for a moment mulling the mans words. It would not hurt to strengthen his bonds to the two men who were here. "Go on," he tells the other man wishing to hear more of this proposal.

"Perhaps a sister? Joan, is it?" Lancaster recalled that there were two Stafford sisters, with Mary being the wife of his half-brother, another Henry. "With your consent, Lord Buckingham could begin the process of courtship."

He nods thoughtfully considering the implications of such an arrangement before turning to Lord Buckingham. "Would you like to meet her tonight Lord Buckingham."

Humphrey seems to come out of an absent minded thought train. He blinks and looks at Lord Stafford, unsure of how to respond, at first.

If you believe it appropriate, my lord, then I shall gladly meet her.

"Excellent." Agreed Lancaster, "Most excellent, if courtship could begin as soon as required."

There was also the matter of a dowry, but both lords owed each other sums of money for their respective brides.

"Excellent," Lord Stafford begins before turning to a servant. "Bring the lady Joan." The next course would be served before Lady Joan would join her brother. She had been entertaining a few guests at another table. Joan smiles as she joins the small group of lords curtsying to the assembled company. "My Lords."
"Joan I would like you to meet Lord Humphrey." Thomas says gesturing to the young man next to him.
Joan smiles her at lord Humphrey, "It is a pleasure my lord."

Humphrey would rise from his seat, remembering the etiquette lessons taken by one of his tutors. He bows his head to Lady Stafford.

My Lady Stafford. It is a pleasure to meet you as well.

Such a choice would earn him continued relations with Lord Stafford, who was his brother-in-law. Humphrey remembered his mother mentioning how the present Earl of Stafford and his late father were good colleagues.

Tell me about yourself, Lady Joan. I am rather interested to hear about yourself.
