Proposed New Faction: Caucasian Mountain Dwellers

Based on many sources the Caucasian resistance should be represented somehow. A buffer state protecting the Caucasian Mountain Passes between Persia and the Steppes, started as a deffensive mark by the Sassanids. It is the case for a new thread.

Early: Chechen Dzurdzuketia defeating the Mongols, Shirvan Albania, Alania and Circassia loosing due to the treachery of the Cuman-Kypchaks and their viceroy.

High: Shirvan vassal to the Mongols and later shifting to Timurids, using diplomacy to survive and Dzurdzuketia resisting Mongols one more time under Tamerlane and receiving his sword as a gift and appreciation as friends and allies, unbreakable

Late: Shirvan allied to Ak Qoyunlu against Tamerlane's succesors or the rising Circassia fighting the other heirs of the Mongols, the Crimean Crimean Khanate, their former ally

In my opinion, having Alania and no other nation of northern Caucasus is not fair and doesn't make sense. What do you(Devs) think about making something like Confederacy of North Caucasian Dwellers? It would include Alans, Circassians, Leks and other nomad nations. This would make their roster very diverse and unique because these peoples culturally were different. Also that would make sense from historical standpoint since they united against Mongols.

Dzurdzuketia and Shirvan faced the Mongols on their own and later even defeated the Timurids, again in individual achievements so if someone can beat the Mongols and live to crush them once again then they sure deserve a place in the campaign map.

Edit. Actually Dzurdzuketia faced and defeated the Mongols three times, twice during the early invasion but with heavy loses and later during Timurid's wrath. Before them the Alans were destroyed together with the Lezhgians of Derbent / Dagestan. The Vaynakh Ingush and Chechen urban populance even if utterly destroyed while fighting to the death, all victimd united later, including the Circassians in the mountains forming a long lived confederacy and diminishing greatly the Mongol hold of Georgia and the Caucasus, defeating three hordes and reconquering lost territories by using guerilla warfare and a very intricate deffensive system. So they found the Mongol's "Achilles heel".

Well the situation was different back then. Georgians didn't realize that time of need has come so they didn't ask for help against 20 000 Mongols. In fact, before Timurid Invasion these peoples were Christian and they favored Georgia for several reasons. Georgian politics has always been tolerant and they didn't use force especially against Christians. Georgian Language even was international in Caucasus back then. All these was the reason Why Tamerlane made them Muslim by force, and after that Georgians and other Caucasian Highlanders became sworn enemies for centuries.

And the most important, there is no term Georgia-Abkhazia. Abkhazia has always been one of the Georgian kingdoms/regions like Kartli. And Abkhazian isn't different nationality, both ethnic Georgians and ethnic north Caucasians(they migrated in Abkhazia in late medieval or even later) which lived in Abkhazia region are called Abkhazs.
If somewhere you have read something else that is just Russian propaganda.

Perhaps is just Russian propaganda and the use of the "Divide et imperia" methods. Still even if loyal to the Georgians except the Circassians who they fought many times if I remember right given the fact that they were overproud and too confident to face the Mongols on their own even if having time to prepare and entered their trap forced the Caucasian Mountain Dwellers to become "Mountain Dwellers" if you know what I mean even if before they were urban population or nomads. So given the facts that happened they basically became other people. The surving few. Still if they managed to gather 50,000 against Subutai's 20,000 thanks to Shirvan's well planned deceit even after being consumed by war it means there was determination in them. And even if loosing the mountain pass ambush tactical confruntation due to the Kypchak desertors they still managed to reunite later on and fill their ranks.

Yes north Caucasians mostly retreated to Mountains but until Timurid invasion they preserved their independence and faith, respectively connection with KOG.

Concerning Abkhazia, it was completely Georgian region back then. North Caucasians only centuries later migrated there.

At this point we can establish, that NO new factions are going to make it into the mod, definitely not into the first campaign release. At this rate we could add dozens of other little, significant or less significant, factions and we would never have a working campaign.
Adding certain units representing minor factions is of course possible and is even encouraged, but not entirely new factions.
