Default Cross-faction agents - the Grombrindal glitch

A while back I made a quick attempt to add the vampire agent to the empire faction, it didn't work and I didn't spend a lot of time on it so I wasn't overly surprised when it failed. It was notable because the agent showed up using the model, portrait & unit card of the free-LC Grombrindal hero. I figured that it was doing that for a similar reason why regular units don't animate properly if you add them to other factions without adding the correct animation tables as well - so I figured it was a problem that could be solved another day with more effort.

Well, I'm checking in today to say that I've just made a substantial attempt to create a new hero from scratch and it still isn't working. Even if there is still some issue with the unit variant txt file (which I've copied from the vampire agent without any changes) by this point I'm certain the unit card should have been changed at the very least but the Grombrindal glitch is still in full force.

I have no idea what to try next. Has anyone been able to resolve this issue or know of a mod that incorporates agents from other factions that could be reverse-engineered?

Thats a common problem, when the game can't load the corresponding agent or its art/uniform. In my experience the reason can be solved normally in culture_to_battle_animations or in the following three tables:
    - faction_agent_permitted_subtypes_tables (have you added the agent to the faction?)
    - units_to_groupings_military_permissions_tables (have you added the agent units to the faction?)
    - agent_culture_details_tables (if you use for example a female wizard for a faction that normally uses male wizards, this is a problem, can be fixed in this table I think, but its difficult)

If thats not helping, you may have a wrong entry in the other agents tables, the uniform or campaign_arts tables.
btw, changing the portraits and unit cards at least for Lords seems to be very bugged, however with agents it may be working.

I did a quick check and all the tables you listed are present and the appropriate changes seem to have been made - but it's mostly guess work on my part as to what counts as an 'appropriate' change. I should mention that this all seems to be working fine in custom battle, it's just the campaign that won't function properly.

I'll have another go at this fairly soon - I might see if I can get it to work by overriding an existing agent more thoroughly than my first effort, rather than trying to make a new hero from scratch.

Just made a really quick, cheeky edit to the empire captain.

All I've done is change the agent_uniforms_table so that the two empire captain uniforms reference the vampire agent filenames, then add the appropriate animation references to campaign_character_arts_tables & culture_to_battle_animation.

It works, the female vampire agent model is now replacing the empire captain successfully on the campaign map. No glitch. This took like 5 mins to do.

Still no idea why the hours of work put in yesterday is screwing up.

    *screams of frustrated incoherent rage*
