Re: The solution to the Irish Problem, York's subjugation war.
The camp was being broken up, the knights were in a conversation of tactical awareness and how to made sure it would be enforced on the march. Edmund had not yet emerged from his bed in his extravagant tent. At midday a servant made her way to the command tent. "My lords" she plainly said while graciously bowing deeply before them. After a initial awe that the servant girl had the guts to speak to the nobility they allow to let her speak. She explains to the Sirs that his grace the Duke has not yet awoken and the servants are reluctant to enter his tent, they fear his wrath. Sir Thomas Goffrey, the honorable knight was the longest in the Duke's employ and thus took it upon himself to see if the Duke was alive and well. Several minutes he stands with his equals before the Duke's tent he gathers the nerve to enter and eventually finds the duke still in his bed. Breathing, but barely. Thomas fell to his knee's at his employers side. "Your Grace, what can I do?!" Thomas said in a panic. The duke could only whisper, he whispered something in Thomas's ear, who promptly called the other knights in. A total of 16 knights gathered inside to hear what would be next, they all were startled at the sight of their duke so terribly ill. Thomas speaks, "The duke wishes to say his final will and testament. We shall all be a witness. " The knights looked on in awe but quickly agreed. A man of God was fetched by the name of Brother John. He would take note of what would be said. The Duke spoke, still very faintly but hearable for all. "The army must be disbanded but all you knights must now serve my son, Edward of Norwich as the true and only heir to my fortune and titles. My body must be berried inside York. Oh may God forgive my sins." The duke was heard well and his will was written. Thomas fetched the duke's seal and sealed the testament but not before a copy was made and sealed as well. A letter informing Edward of Langley was also drawn up informing him of the events and his fathers impending death and sent with all haste. The Duke indicated he wanted to be seated upright, and his servants helped him but it was of no use. The Duke quickly fell into a slumber and within the hour he breathed no more. The 1st Duke of York was no more.
Quickly after the dukes death a party of 10 knights informed the men they would not be payed and were to be disbanded from that moment onward. Being no Longer in the employ of the Duke of York. They would continue to spread a letter informing the King of his uncles Death, one to John of Gaunt as well together with his son in law, Thomas Holland. A letter following up the earlier sent letter toward Edward of Norwich was sent to confirm the dukes Death too. The other 6 knights with Sir Thomas Goffrey at their head would see to the Duke's body and it's safe arrival in York.
