Default what does firepower stands for?

So what does it stands for? Besides being more damaging to ships and buildings does it more damaging against units?

1 bullet = 1 casualty. The lethality rate is the same for everything except artillery which can miss. Musketballs, taken wherever on the human body, leave a nice round hole difficult to close and impossible to heal by itself, shattered tissue and bones, and if the ball stops inside you'd be lucky to be alive without an infection a week later. This is one aspect of the times done right by CA.
In units, the only aspect that is really meaningful is "range". Loading times are quite similar in the base game.

i think concept of range is incorrect in NTW and TW games overall.. Technically, these units could open fire at much longer distances than was their effective range, it was not uncommon to fire at extreme ranges and do nothing.. Plus, in game, current range is not just effective range, but also engagement range, and unit cannot reply when out of range.. which is very unrealistic, as weapon max range was way greater than effective range. Thats why i have worked on this concept in a bit of detail in NER mod, so whoever is interested how it works, you can try and see for yourselves.
