    Icon1 Light

    Steel knights, together weld,
    Stone walls beaten bare.
    Hellish engines coil and spring,
Grey wisps trail along the air.

    Ensigns charred, banners burnt,
    One flag flapping bright.
    Coloured crimson, orange, yellow,
    Invading a serene night.

    Burning carcass of past prime,
    Glowing in a mournful pyre.
    Is fire's aeon upon us?
    Is the globe consumed entire?

A veil atop the blackened heaps,
As dense as swarms of flies.
No child cries, no man weeps,
    Vapored are all tears.

Flames like telsons, sting and still,
Flames like nails, peel and drill.
    When cracklings engulf thy voice,
    When heat engulfs thy sight,
    Accede and ascend,
    Be one with the light.

The Study's poet laureate delivers another stellar piece.

Really enjoyed this one, the chaos and damage of war contrasting with the almost serenity of the last couple of lines. The fourth stanza in particular created some very evocative imagery.

I thank you, still, I think it is better to let the Gilded Hall be the repository of our poems.

Of fire in particular, as war has turned into fire latterly. All consuming fire...

I'm intrigued by references which might relate to different time periods ('steel knights' sounds like a reference to events centuries ago, 'hellish engines' to more recent events) and the powerful metaphor of war as all-consuming fire. I agree with Shankbot about the contrast in the final stanza, as images of destruction transform into the idea of ascension and burning heat into illuminating light.

Very admiring words and motivational as well in some way. I liked your named because it reminds me of a person in history who was a sultan and a very great person as well. I have read a lot about that person and i respect your name as well for that.

From chaos to silence. Very nice, I like this piece.
