Default Announcement - Fan Made Music

    Hi there.

I am a musician... I intend to produce a sub mod for battle music based entirely on my love for the DeI mod and team!

Now this is no doubt a gargantuan project! It will take many hours of blood, sweat and tears!

HOWEVER : I have had ample experience in such endeavours. I have produced music for many a mod, videogame. student film etc.

Regardless, I need your help. I want want advice/feedback/tips/ideas/love/hate for my project. I have absolutely no affiliation with the DeI mod team, so this project is primarily going to be a compilation of media for personal use that I will upload freely.

I will need help from you guys, however! I want some guidance on what the modding software allows! For example, can I create separate Eastern and Barbarian battle music? I need help understanding how the game engine uses custom music.
If anyone knows any sources of ancient Roman/Greek music instrument samples etc etc that would also be appreciated.

For the time being, I will experiment in creating some epic sounding battle music, using tradition orchestral instruments and some special 'war drum' sample effects. I may decide to use some choir/vocal software too, to create a stereotypical background vocal track.

I have very little experience in modding the sound files so I can't be of much help, but I wish you luck

    HI,

I love the idea. Please consider downloading/listening to these pieces from the RTW1 mode Europa Barbarorum. Perhaps if you are able to get in contact with the composers of these pieces, Morgan Casie and Nick Wylie they would offer some support.

P.S. Here is the Roman battle music, it has that RTW-esque feel and is quite epic and would suit DEI tremendously

    Good luck!

Have a look at this thread http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...L-for-Patch-17
I didn't try that but it seems the guy has setted music for every culture.
Try to contact him, his last activity was a week ago, so he should be still around.
    Good work!

Firstly, I would download an existing music mod and see how a seasoned TWC member arranged the different tracks for different areas of the campaign (along with different music for battle map). Start with Tyso3's Epic Music Pack. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...L-for-Patch-17 (the Dynamic pack is modern music and obviously has no place in DeI). For an audiophile, or anyone who's put into a coma by the vanilla music, this is essential for playing DeI or any mod based on this engine.

You'll notice repetition between the cultures, and I'm not sure if this is intentional or more a result of the engine. For example, in the first warscape engine (Empire) you could create a massive catalog of tracks for the different regions of the map so that you could use all 17th century European orchestrations in Europe, Ottoman music in the Middle East, East Indian tunes in the Indian sub-continent, the Last of the Mohicans soundtrack when over Native American territories, etc, etc. The same applied in battles. In a huge music mod I made once upon a time, you would have totally different rousing music during a battle depending on which faction you were playing. Rome2 may be more limited, but you still have the ability to set different tracks for different cultures / or map areas as is obvious when using the above music mod.

I just want to create battle music... not campaign music. This project looks cancelled before it begins... I would need to either use the existing music, or team up with someone else... I don't know. What I DO want to do, is create something entirely from scratch, composed and arranged by myself. To set it apart from many other mods.

If you're going to do battle music only, then team up with someone or ask an existing music mod creator (like Tyso3) if you can incorporate their work, or just use the original Rome 1 tracks to add something, anything to the campaign. because the vanilla music is coma inducing, and reason #3 (out of 365 reasons) why the vanilla game is unplayable. I would love to hear some original battle music, as I'm sure many would, but I would never replace a full music mod with one that only changes the battle music. Most of the time is spent on the campaign map.

I'm a musician NOT a diplomat! Dammit, Jim!

Anyway, I have some AWESOME ideas for battle tracks regarding different factions/cultures, but my expertise dies there........

Which is why I made this threas... After some consideration I have absolutely NO QUALMS using music from another mod that has utilised copyrighted/hollywood assets for the entire content of the mod (which gives me much leeway)

I want to compose some AWESOME/BADASS/KICKASS/ etc etc etc music for battles!!! And I want to dedicate it solely to the DeI mod team..... I appreciate their work a hell of a lot. I've never known enough about anything to ever help towards the creation of the mod (the owning of several history books is not sufficient for some reason)

Regardless, I really, really, genuinely believe that I have something unique and positive to add to the DeI mod! And I will do all in my power to add any kind of content towards the mod.
