    Default Northumberland House

With the elevation of Henry Percy, Earl of Northumberland, to the post of Lord Constable, the Earl would purchase a suitable manor within London to serve as his residence during his stay in London.

Also with him is his second wife, the Baroness Lucy, and his younger sons, Ralph and Alan, and his daughter, Margaret.

Edward of Norwich, KG. Arrives at the manor looking for the Earl. With him are several retainers and servants complete with White Rose flags.

A servant would greet Edward, indicating that Lord Northumberland was in sitting room towards the rear of the complex. Once Norwich was shown in, Lord Northumberland could be seen sitting with his brother, Sir Thomas, who were quietly discussing with each other. When Henry notices the arrival of York's heir, he rises to greet him, though he wasn't sure why he had come.

My Lord Norwich, welcome. What can I do for you?

"M'Lords" Edward said out of respect before bowing.
"I hope I'm not interrupting m'lord. I will not bore you with endless conversations before I come to my point. I'm without a wife and I was hoping to find a match within your family my lord." Edward said, not being very tactful.

Percy's eyebrow goes up slightly, somewhat confused to the sudden and blunt request given the circumstances surrounding London as of present.

My Lord Norwich, I merely have a daughter who is but the age of ten years. I have no sisters nor extended relatives that I could offer as a wife besides my young daughter.

Reading the reaction Edward says "Apologies for the unfortunate timing my lord. A betrothal would be favorable if you would have it my lord. Recent events have made me consider my own mortality and I would like to father children of my own so my line may live on. "

As does any man desire to see his line flourish before the end of his days, which come quicker than anticipated.

To be linked with the future Duke of York could be quite the link for the Percys. Yet, in this situation, anything could happen to all present. Lord Northumberland even thought of sending his children and wife home to Alnwick until the present times had calmed down. Something that Lord Percy put as a mental note to perform once Edward had departed.

I will permit writing to my daughter when she turns twelve in a couple of years, my Lord Norwich. Let us see if the match between my daughter and your person is blessed by God, would you not agree?

Writing was the earliest form of courtship and would give time to see the response by his daughter. If all went well, Lord Percy would certainly make the betrothal official.

"Agreed my Lord, if God wills it we will make it official in due time. I thank you for the opportunity M'lord. "

Edward was silent for a moment, hesitant to ask the remaining question, however recent events made him grow up quickly and so he decided he needed to ask. "M'lord, what is your stance in the realm at this moment if I may inquire? "

My stance? I will see to it that those who would use the King's condition to ensure their ambitions grip this realm are not achieved, Lord Norwich.

Henry Percy says this plainly, knowing that he had already dedicated his services to Bolingbroke. But without his own knowledge of Norwich's allegiance, he kept it vague.

I will not want to see someone use these events to control the government while the King is in this state and abuse the King's authority for their own gains.

Edward wasn't satisfied. "Let us hope we chose the same side than M'lord. Strike me down if you will it but I will protect the realm against usurpers just like you say M'lord." Edward sneezed uncontrollable for a moment. "pardon me M'lord. The weather hasn't been gracious. I stand with my Kin. I hope you will as well." He finally added.

There had been some letters exchanged so far and, from what Lord Percy had been told by his son, Harry, his daughter seemed receptive to the courtship of the Duke of York. The Lord High Constable was in his solar, drinking some wine when Edward of Norwich is shown in. Henry, a man of Lord Lancaster's age, bows to York before gesturing to a seat and offers some wine.

I suspect you have come about my daughter, my Lord York.

Edward was content, he walked into the solar and took it in for a moment. He liked the social aspect of being a Lord more then he though. Perhaps it was his taste for the finer wines though. Edward gleamed at the wine, he was acquiring a taste for it. He took the seat that was offered followed by a sip of wine followed with an other sip.

I indeed am Lord Percy. Last time I was here I was but the heir to York, now I am the Duke of York. A stressful occupation as I am sure you will agree upon. It's vital to have someone to be your rock so to say.
If it has your approval my lord, I would wish to wed your daughter next year.

Henry would lightly tap his cup for a moment, thinking quietly upon the bold request. Sure he had heard good and receptive communications with his son, Harry, from Alnwick. Lord Northumberland knew that, among the northern lords, Lancaster and York stood as the strongest and largest landholders. To link himself to either or would be good for the future of his house.

And I shall agree to the marriage. Upon the age of 14, my daughter will marry you, my Lord York.

Edward seemed happy. He started to care about the Lord's daughter.

"Glad we could figure this out so quickly. I will host a banquet for some Lords within considerable time, I would like it if you would attend."

Percy was eating a late dinner that evening when a servant came to say that the Duke of York had come to visit. Henry sighs, anticipating what this was about as he exited the dining area and went to see Edward in one of the parlors.

"Your Grace, surprised to see you here at this late of an hour."

"I see no reason to throw you out of my house, Lord York. Whatever made you think that?" Henry's eyebrow goes up slightly, not sure why Edward acted this way. "I am not the one who punished you after all and you are my son in law."

"I fear the whole... incident has left my confidence in tatters. A great many nobles among the king feel like it was deserved. Never the less you honor me with the gesture dear father in law."
Edward continued after making sure he could see none.

"I have a matter of the utmost importance which required a private conversation my lord. I hope none of your servants can hear us here. For the content of this conversation holds my future."
