    Default Morale Problem

    Hy!

I found some interesting things about the morale. My units have bigger basic morale,we are winning the battle and our units have better stamina but sometimes they rout without any visible reason. But for example when I fought with Epeiros and their hoplites unit was totaly surrended the morale was always orange or yellow.I used very similar roman units and they were shaken.I play Hard diff.

The AI gets bonuses to stats, including morale, on higher difficulties. If you want it to be balanced, switch to normal. And yes, you can change battle difficulty separate from campaign difficulty. It's in the options once you start the campaign.

I hope you and others that will come and read this post learn the lesson from now on.

In ANY Total War game, increasing the difficulty of the campaign means more challenge/ betterCAI/BAI,etc., in the way of inteligence. The only thing you get from Hard/Very Hard and Legendary is a bonus on stats and money for the AI. IF and only IF that means to YOU a "challenge" then go on but never ever complaint about any kind of aspect nor the camapign neither the battles cause you have been warned from this day

Furthermore, the mod CAI BAI has been tested and Balanced in the Normal difficulties.

Finally, please don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to be rude, salty or unpolite, just giving you a portion of reality. It is what it is
Hope you keep enjoying this great mod.

If it looks random then it works properly While I can assure you the mechanics behind are working as intended, it was that "ilussion of randomness" I wanted to have. Previously morale was soo easy to control, you were even able to anticipate in how many minutes a unit will break or you were never in a position of uncertainty. Now, if you make mistake or get too condifent, you will lose. Unit will not hold off alone just because it is of elite status as even those guys were not gods and often routed without much punishment taken. Also due to improved AI behaviour, you need to have more units in reserves as allies nearby give positive effect.

Morale was tested extensively and is working as intended. There is always some random thing happening like unit fighting from the front but getting rear attack penalties etc. Also the morale is much more dynamic now and units can rout even if for you the units is winning (while other units are routing or getting flanked). Currently the most importnat is local superiority and amount of routing friendly units. Also do not expect a unit to hold out when it is exhausted and at half strength.

If you think there is a bug going on, you need to list which version of DeI you use, what difficulty, what faction or even post a screenshot, because I have no use from what you described above, it is not telling me anything at all.

I also want to thank you for this 1.2 masterpiece. I must admit, that first time I played a battle in campaign, I was really angry and frustrazed because of routing units. The battles feel so different know and in combination with population system it really introduced new problems as you cannot simply conquer the world with one elite army. Damn, I was so angry when my elite soldiers routed in a situation, that could never happen in previous versions and its good. Well done guys, whole game really got a big dose of realism.

The best way to describe how I think of unit quality is viewing it as a tool, not a solution. What I mean by that is previously, if you wanted a secure flank or center, you would just put elite unit in there, knowing it will hold despite what is going on around. I prefer units and their quality to work as a tool to achieve something. Ok, so your flank is vulnerable? Send there a unit of elite quality as it will have higher chance of performing the task but it will not be an instant solution to the problem. A unit of elite quality is not godlike but simply has a much better chance of performing the task than any other. This puts bigger emphasis on unit cooperation as just by spamming elite hoplites you will not auto win, they will still need other units to help them. And even if that elite hoplite army will be winning on its own, just the manpower cost of having it at full strength will slow you down heavily or even make it impossible to move further. Also previously reserves did not matter much while now they are important since losing at one of the flanks or other parts of battle can mean quick rout to others, unless you have units in reserve that can fill the gap fast. I find medium units to be the best for this role as they are both fast and durable enough for you to gain victory in other places.
