    Default Ex-com"ed King of France.

So, as playing a campaign using France I was excommed for taking down the Normans in Egland...which the English were probably happy about. s it went/goes My faction, France has seen two papas come and go and I have the ability to call on crusade but am unable to have any generals join as my liege lord is still band. I love how when hovered over the ex-com status the wordage goes something like "the church made a mistake in excomming this great warrior king who's men would follow him to Rome itself if he wished it" paraphrased of course.

I'm running 6.4 using a couple Meneth Mod items, heir crown, longer lives etc. So is what I am describing here irreversible. I still have about 3-4 4 ring loyalty lords several 1-2 and one with no loyalty...who stays with the king as his toady I raised my kings piety from 1 to 2 but even tho I was excepted into the fold again recently I am still kind of hindered. I thought there might be civil war earlier as there was a warning but it is 10 years past. Is there nothing I can do to restore my king who is now refereed to as the merciless and has 10 stars and 10 authority.

I had thought of making a pilgrimage to Rome as it seems assassination wont make a difference if it's only my king and not my faction.

    Any help/advice will be appreciated.

Feed pope tons of cash, and then ask for reconciliation.

And feed him more cash every time his approval falls, this can help prevent those "stop or excommunication" threats. (Instead he might give "stop or lose approval" quests)

this is especially usefull for ppl who play with rules such as "can only attack 1 turn after besieging enemy settlement even if got siege weapons" like the AI does

it's almost impossible to conquer anything without the approval of the pope

Or you can just do as the description says and lead your army to Rome
Surprising how fast the Pope will change his tune once he has been kicked out of his own city.

I like the Henry VIII philosophy...
"The Pope can do as he likes in Rome. Ill do as I like in England."

Never once thought about this until now. I am trying to unite France as well and the Pope's constant meddling is annoying. I have always disliked Catholic factions that don't share borders with Muslims or Orthodox since Papal meddling really deincentivizes your going to war (the whole point of this game).

True. The Pope can be a pain for factions like France and England, who have no immediate non-Catholic borders.
But, that is pretty realistic when looking at history. One side or the other usually had to appease Rome before they started thrashing their Catholic neighbors.
In the game though, you can be clever/sneaky and goad them into attacking you. The Pope takes a much kinder view toward you when the other side is the aggressor.
Try sending spies/assassins to wreak havoc on your enemy. Even if they fail in their assignment, your enemy's relations with you will steadily plummet until they finally attack you.
When that happens, be ready to pounce and take 2-3 cities quickly before the Pope tells you to stop. Then, wait the 7 turns (the Pope is all about stopping the fight for 7 turns for some reason) and pounce again.
