This is one more of those things that I hadn't paid much attention to until now; but, since I occasionally like to read the little quips (or one liners) that (used to) appear as one waited for the loading bar to progress, I find it annoying that the screen turns black and all one sees is the bar.

This is happening whether it's a fresh install or any of the mods (Bare_Geomod, KGCM, etc.).

I've checked my video drivers and they're up to date.

So, if anyone has other suggestions, I would certainly appreciate the help.

That's a first: does it fade into black or is it black from the start?

In the back of my mind I thought I had seen something about a transition\fade time setting but I can't find it and I may be wrong.

The splash screen (or whatever it is called) comes up briefly; but when the progress bar gets activated the screen turns black except for the progress bar itself. This would lead me to believe that something has caused that screen to become opaque (Black) rather than translucent.

I'm not exactly sure when it started; but it happens even with a totally fresh reinstall of the game. So, I suspect that it's a Windows 10 issue of some sort.

Whether this happened shortly after I installed and started using Gimp and/or Photoshop; I'm not sure. I did make the mistake of associating the tga files with gimp and can find no way to undo that. So, I can't tell if that is what caused it or not.

It's not a big deal; but it is a bit annoying, if simply because I know it's not supposed to do that.

To revert the association of the tga files with GIMP is relatively easy, although I don't know if this is the culprit. Right click a tga file > Open with other program (a list should drop down or appear) > Select the former, the default program > Always open files with this program. Something like this anyway.

Have you tried to open a few tga files in data/loading_screens to see what happens?

Unfortunately, I had already tried that; but once you associate any given file to the TGA extension you cannot (simply) UN-associate it. You can change the association to another program... ...and with that in mind I did come up with a way to unassociated it (just now): I used Notepad to create Delete_This.exe; associated a TGA file to Delete_This.exe; and then deleted Delete_This. exe. Presto, change-o...

However, that did not solve my primary dilemma. So, I will try your other suggestion here shortly.

So, while battling other (modding) issues, I did discover how to fix this problem. If I adjust the game's video setting to match my screen settings; then it works the way it's supposed to work. If I set them any smaller that that (because my screen is extremely wide and things seem slightly stretched), then it does not work the way it's supposed to work.

I have not tried running it in a window; as that's typically problematic at best. But I might.

In any case, at least I know what's causing the issue.

Thanks to all who tried to assist; as it was greatly appreciated.

File association does not affect their use in a game. It only helps you to directly open them when clicking on them.

Fixed - I am surprised that a display having a different size then your desktop resolution causes this. Can you recall what the initial setting was? And also give your desktop resolution?
