Default Jaime's Escape from the Red Keep

Jaime unbuckled his sword belt, letting it clatter to the ground. He had no other choice in this. He bowed and allowed himself to be led off. Traitor or no, the truth would count for little with Aerys, this he knew. He would wait until the guard had escorted him some distance, back towards the White Tower. How will the gold cloaks match me? he wondered as he was led off. Once out of sight of the King, his Brothers, and well along the path, Jaime would reach for the sheathed swords of one of his guards and attempt to kill them. It was a bold, maybe suicidal gambit, but he could never be judged fairly. Even in a trial by combat Aerys would simply choose fire and have him burned. (I'll wait for this to be rolled. Don't know how many guards Aerys put on him to be escorted)

Old Ser Darry stood watching the scene unfold, powerless as the young man whom hadn't deserved a white cloak to begin with was stripped of the honor, rather unceremoniously. He found himself often standing by these days, powerless to stop the injustice he saw - even though the knightly oaths he'd taken demanded he act. He watched in silence as Lord Stark was burned alive and his heir strangled by the foreign contraption, he had stayed in the Red Keep when his Knightly brother Ser Barristan had been felled by his fellow Rivermen, he stood by while the King raped his Lady wife, and now he stood by while his nominal brother was sent to his death. There was a sadness in his eyes, a defiance in his silence - though he attempted to take comfort in his suit of armor, its tight grip, its metallic smell, its white shine. Rest with your ancestors Selmy, find the peace life denied you. He closed his eyes as the steps of Jaime and the goldcloaks grew faint, soon the boy would be a shadow of a memory.. like the rest. You'll find peace soon.. my brother.

Jaime was escorted by a fellow Kingsguard and two Goldcloaks, his destination was his own quarters within white sword tower. The three men, not expecting resistance from a Whitecloak, were taken utterly by surprise. Upon rounding a corner, Jaime swung round and smashed his still-gauntleted fist into the Kingsguard while simultaneously reaching for his sword and dragging it from the scabbard.

The first Goldcloak was cut down before he'd even raised his spear, and the second was soon to join him before Jaime found himself wrestling for the sword from the resurgent Kingsguard.

"Get help!" he urged, causing the Goldcloak to flee, just as Jaime regained control of the sword and thrust it through his once-brother's throat. The Goldcloak was likely too far away now to chase: doing so would risk simply running into more guards. Jaime had to think quickly about his next move, as the alarm would be raised before long.

Jaime reached for the fallen Goldcloak's spear, raised it, aimed, and threw it with all his might at the fleeing guard.

The spear would miss the Goldcloak, who had made it round a corner just as Jaime threw the weapon. He could now hear the man shouting about Jaime's escape, raising the alarm.

"Damn" Jaime cursed, a smile playing upon his lips. "Time to run." He sheathed the sword in his scabbard. Jaime began stripping his armor as he ran, first the helm, next his greaves. He flung it onto low rooftops, into the moat, he ducked into a stable to remove his chestplate, next his mail. It was a shame to leave such behind, but he wouldn't need it where he wasgoing. "To the flea bottom." he whispered to himself, starting off at a run. He had smeared mud on his clothes, hoping to blend into the population in the growing darkness. With his armor stripped he looked more akin to a street urchin than a man if the Kingsguard. His oath was forgotten, he had watched the Starks burn, he would not suffer a similar fate. If he was to die, it would be upon the end of a sword or spear, not in a fire.

He made his way down and down, deeper into the city. He had to stay ahead of the news of his escape until he came to the sewers.

[OOC: I rolled a 20 for getting out of the Red Keep before it's locked down, lucky for Jaime! Less lucky for Aerys...]

Jaime was able to move around the castle well, his knowledge of the labyrinthine corridors giving him the edge over the Goldcloaks who rarely came very far inside. Tossing bits of armour into empty rooms as he went and finding a storeroom with servant's clothes in it, he was able to disguise himself at first glance as a commoner. Reaching the stables, he was able to dirty his face and clothes, including with a smattering of manure to dissuade people from coming too close for inspection, and make for the front gate. As he was leaving the stables, he ducked into an alcove as a number of carts came by him towards the stables.

Here was his riskiest move, for the Goldcloaks at the gate surely knew to look for him. He eyed the gate for some time, looking for a pattern in the Goldcloaks' movements, looking for a gap, an oversight. There was no pattern, though, and they were certainly on alert: he couldn't evade capture by running around inside the Red Keep forever, but he couldn't very well walk out that gate or out-fight the twenty-odd men manning it.

He was in luck, however: those same carts were now coming back his way, loaded high with soiled straw and manure. They had been cleaning out the stables! Jaime waited until the last had passed him then slipped out of his hiding spot and joined the back of the convoy, tucking his sword under one of the piles of dirty straw. The first rule of getting to somewhere you shouldn't be allowed to go: act like you're supposed to be there. Jaime, covered in dirt, manure, and soiled straw, didn't even elicit a passing glance from the Goldcloaks, who turned their noses from the awful convoy.

Jaime was now out of the Red Keep.

Jaime waited untilthe cart had moved out of sight of the guards before he allowed himself to retch over the side. He had landed in something green and fresh, though he supposed sitting in dung was preferable to burning alive. His luck had been unaccountably high. Clearly the gods wished for him to survive, it must be so. Cersei would be waiting for him when he returned to the Rock. Perhaps he could steal away to the Kingswood tohide, or disguise himself and travel openly on the Gold Road to the Westerlands. If only he had been privvy to the war councils, he might know which side to flee to or indeed where such friends as they were could be found.

A day had passed, Jaime had spent the night in a barn, catching fitful sleep next to an extremely large hog. Fortunately for him, the hog was friendly enough. He didn't recognize himself as he crouched over a pail of brackish water. His hair was caked with dirt and hog filth, his golden locks darkened by the same. He had escaped the clutches of Aerys, but not the city itself. He had options open to him, hide within the city or attempt to escape. He sill had his sword, he might be able to cut his way free. But how? A plan began to grow in his head. He had no coin himself, but the promise of gold might be enough. Jaime patted the hog's head, helping himself to half a carrot from the slop bucket, and set off towards the flea bottom as nigh began to descend once again. He was going in search of a sellsword, or maybe a merchant, either would suffice.

Finding a sellsword would not be difficult, with Jaime eventually coming across a group in a tavern. His filthy appearance would work against him, however, as people seemed to attempt to stay away from him. Still, he approached the group, who looked him up and down with disgust.

    "What?" asked one.

Jaime smiled widely. "I can make each of you as rich as lords." Jaime began "If you'll hear me out."

The man snorted. "Are you as addled in the brain as you are filthy, boy?"

Jaime smiled "Not so much." Jaime replied, resting the edge of his blade across the table. "I am Jaime Lannister." in such a position he would easily slay two or three of them before melting into the alleyways. "Condemned by Aerys to be burned, but I escaped. Now I need only several loyal men to make my way from this wretched place. These several men would make out with much pay from my father for returning me to his care. And surely King Aerys would be suspicious of even any men who returned me to his custody." Jaime replied. "I guarded the King even as he burned the Starks, as his sworn Kingsguard, and now he wants to burn me. Gods only know what he would think about sellswords returning me to him. Would he think you loyal? I think not."

    The men laughed heartily.

"Aye, and I'm Lord Goldencock!" roared their leader, before a sinister grin spread across his face and he took a more serious tone, "Where'd you steal the sword from lad? Good steel, that..."

"I did steal it," Jaime admitted, a teenager filled with the sense of immortality and youth "From a goldcloak charged to guard me. I punched him with a mailed fist before drawing it, thrusting it into another to escape." He smiled widely. If I am lying, then you lose nothing. And if I am not lying, you will live as lords from this year until the end of your days." Jaime replied. "I am Jaime Lannister, son of Tywin Lannister. I fled the Red Keep because Aerys suspected my father had turned cloak. I watched Lord Stark and his son and heir Brandon burn in the Red Keep for their suspected treason. I will not follow in their foot steps. Aid me and win favor and coin, oppose me...and at the very least severalof you will die by my blade before I am cut down, and then Aerys may choose to burn you anyway for good measure."

"Aid a rambling fool and we end up dead by the Goldcloaks, I'd wager." said the man, "Leave us, fool. You should be in the madhouse, not wandering the streets with a stolen sword."

Jaime left their presence without a word, leaving the tavern and taking to the street, he wanted to be far away before he stopped. Those sellswords may inform upon him and he wanted to be far away just in case. Why would they deny me? He thought to himself. Don't they see that I am being truthful? He wished he had a surcoat of Lannister colors to convince those around him of his true identity, but then again that may serve only to paint a target on his chest. He decided, instead, to steal some bread and sleep in the alleyway for yet another night. Perhaps he would scale the gate and escape upon the morrow.

The Search for Jamie and the submission of King's Landing.

With the new King, Robert Baratheon in the Great Hall awaiting his crown. High Lord Damon of House Payne offered to seek Ser Jamie Lannister, son of Lord Paramount Tywin "The Kingmaker" Lannister. He received orders to clear the city of opposition as well. A thing the Payne's are bred for. Violence is their second nature and Ser Damon "The Impaler" Payne II demonstrates this his continued Reach Campaign under lord Crakehall. The task at hand was no easy one. Ser Jamie was missing from the Red Keep and seemed not among the Kings Guard either. His faith was currently unknown, perhaps he was even killed?

Damon had left the Red Keep and commanded one of his sergeant at arms to gather the remainder of house Payne's Light Infantry.
After several minutes most of the men had been assembled and were awaiting orders. The local populace could be seen glancing from their windows with a particular terror on their face. Would the new King order a purge? A good question. Damon asked
"Sergeant, where's the Lord commander of the City Guard?". The man replied "We're still searching for him my lord". Imbeciles Payne thought to himself. How could he search the city without a proper guide from someone that actually knows the city? Being interrupted in thought the sergeant gets a piece of scroll pressed in his hand by one of the soldiers. He opens it and says "Lord Payne, here's a map of the city. Perhaps it could be of some use while we search the for the City Guard Commander. ". Payne replies while glancing at the map "Fine. Make a defensive zone around The Hook. We will search for Ser Jamie there first. You better hurry with it too."

The sergeant bowed and made haste with moving. He could tell Payne was visibly mad at his for failing to find the Lord Commander quick enough.
