    Default Additional DAC tweaks submod!

    Hello all!

    Divide and Conquer Tweaks:

    I am offering a small tweak for DAC that I felt was sorely missing; Permanent arrows!

    Now the aftermath of a battle feels all that much more gruesome as you will be able to see all the spent arrows lying strewn across the battlefield. It will also be a damning indictment of your archers' accuracy or lack thereof!

    This is a very small tweak and can be added or removed mid campaign with no problems.

    Regular arrows and crossbow bolts that strike the ground are now set to last an entire 60 minutes. Flaming arrows last about 45 seconds instead of 15 or so. The only exceptions are arrows that strike walls, it just looked strange having walls turned into pin cushions so those have remained unchanged.

    Download: http://www.mediafire.com/file/2vz98f...ent_Arrows.rar

    Installation: I have the folder structure set up so you can simply drag and drop my file into your game files, accept the overwrite prompt and that's it! The only thing to keep in mind is my data folder needs to merge with the one currently on your computer, but you don't want to put my file inside of yours!

    Important Note: This tweak can be very demanding on your hardware. If you're computer struggles with Med 2 already then don't even bother trying this, it WILL cause serious lag if your computer can't handle it. I only recommend this tweak to people who have more modern gaming rigs. You don't need a super computer to run this by any means but you do need to exceed Med 2's recommended hardware requirements which you can find listed on the steam page for the game.

    Because this modification can potentially cause serious lag, I am going to include the original unaltered file as well so you can revert back at any time if you feel you're computer can't handle it. You should always make a backup copy of anything you alter, but just in case you forget you have this

    Enjoy!

    Stay tuned as I will most likely offer further tweaks for DAC as time goes on

    Great job indeed!

    Already downloaded and I will try it out! It must have been a helluva job to gather all these pictures.

    Can the permanent arrows work for other mods as well?

    Thanks! The bigger job was resizing and cropping the images to hide watermarks and signatures. There may be a few partial signatures still visible but I did the best I could.

    Unfortunately, you can't use my permanent arrows file for anything but DAC. It would need to be made specially for any other submod. Which one did you have in mind?

    Never thought you actually had to edit the images! Makes sense though. Even finding the pictures in the first place seems like too much for my internet-fu...

    I had no particular mod in mind. I have 6-7 installed and I wanted to incorporate this permanent arrows feature just for modding practice. Thanks for offering though! Could you redirect me somewhere to learn how to do it myself? I am not asking you to describe it here, as I think writing such a tutorial will take too much of your time.

    Yeah, loading screens all have to be 1024 x 768. As you can imagine, practically nobody uploads pictures at that resolution anymore. So I had to downsize and crop nearly every single picture in this pack! That took me quite some time. As for finding the images themselves, I've been building them up for years, I love looking through gallery's on deviantart looking for inspiration for my own artwork.

    It's actually not very difficult to make permanent arrows work for another mod. You just need Notepad++ to open the file in question.

    There's a file in the Data folder called "descr_effects_impacts.txt" You open that with Notepad++ and then do a control+f search for the following lines:

    effect_set arrow_impact_ground_set

    effect_set bolt_impact_ground_set

    effect_set steel_bolt_impact_ground_set

    You just need to change the "play time" setting under each one to 3600 if you want them to last for an hour.

    It should look like this when you're done with each:
    Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    effect_set arrow_impact_ground_set

    {
    play_time 3600
    lod 1000
    {
    arrow_ground_impact
    bullet_impact_ground_small

    }

    Let me know if you need anymore help.

    Great site for a variety of matters, indeed. I often visit it for D&D inspiration.

    It turns out it wasn't such a big tutorial after all.. I didn't know how much pressure it would put in my CPU, but now that c.ryo mentioned that, I will probably try it when I upgrade my PC. It's old enough as it is, no need to strain it anymore.

    Problem with permanent arrows is the CPU strain it causes. Yes it looks great, however regardless of your PC specs the way Med engine works it will cause massive lag, as each arrows needs to be rendered on this engine. And Med 2 engine is CPU hungry, so regardless of PC, sooner or later during the battle you will see a major slow down.

    This is true, but in my experience it only causes lag on truly epic battles. I've been playing with this tweak for as long as I've played DAC and never had significant slowdowns. I even tested it with 20 Elven archers vs 20 snaga archers. It did slow down by the end of the battle but it was still playable.
