    House Lannister of Casterly Rock

    Hear me Roar!

House Lannister of Casterly Rock is one of the Great Houses of Seven Kingdoms, and the principal house of the Westerlands. Their seat is Casterly Rock, though another branch exists that is based in nearby Lannisport. Their sigil is a golden lion on a field of crimson. Their official motto is "Hear Me Roar!" However, their unofficial motto, equally well known, is "A Lannister always pays his debts." The Warden of the West is traditionally a Lannister.

Fair-haired, tall, and handsome, the Lannisters are the blood of Andal adventurers who carved out a mighty kingdom in the western hills and valleys. Through the female line they boast of descent from Lann the Clever, the legendary trickster of the Age of Heroes, who became the first King of the Rock, after tricking the members of House Casterly into giving him Casterly Rock. The gold of Casterly Rock, Castamere, the Pendric Hills and the Golden Tooth has made them the wealthiest of the Great Houses, the keep at Casterly Rock sits literally on top of a gold mine, built into the very rock. From that lofty yet uncomfortable position, House Lannister rules over the Westerlands and influences all of Westeros, by virtue of the kingdom’s purse strings.

    Gregor Clegane

Biography: Ser Gregor Clegane is the Knight of Clegane's Keep and is the head of House Clegane, which are landed knights and bannermen to House Lannister.
Gregor Clegane is well known for his size, cruelty, and prowess in battle. Gregor is extremely tall (he is close to eight feet in height). He has "massive shoulders and arms thick as the trunk of small trees." Gregor weighs over thirty stone (420 lbs), nearly all of it muscle, making him near inhumanly strong. Gregor's strength allows him to wield a six-foot, two-handed greatsword with just one hand, giving him enormous reach while still wielding a shield. Such is the power of Gregor's strength that he has been known to hack men in half with just a single blow.
In battle he wears the heaviest, thickest plate armor in the Seven Kingdoms. His armor is so heavy that no ordinary man would be able to move, let alone fight effectively while wearing it, making him nigh-invincible in combat. Below the plate he wears chainmail and boiled leather. He also wears a plate helm with only a narrow slit for vision, atop of which is a stone fist punching up towards the sky. Gregor carries an extremely thick oaken shield bearing the three black dogs of House Clegane on a yellow field. Squired for Tywin Lannister.

    Age: 26

    +3 Survival
    +3 Duel
    +1 pillager

Equipment: Partial Plate (+20 hp, +4 Duels, +2 Survival) A greatsword (+7 Duels, +2 Survival

    Sandor Clegane

Biography: Sandor Clegane is a member of House Clegane. He is the younger brother of the current head, Ser Gregor Clegane. He is nicknamed the Hound for his savage nature and unquestioning obedience to his masters and for the three dogs featured in his family's crest. He is considered one of the most dangerous fighters in Westeros, though he frequently drinks himself into stupors. As a child, Sandor received gruesome facial burns when Gregor shoved his face into a brazier. He came to loathe fire, his brother, and the hypocrisy of knighthood in general. Sandor is a huge and heavily-muscled man. The right side of his face is gaunt, with sharp cheekbones and a heavy brow. His nose is large and hooked, his long hair is dark and thin and brushed so that it covers the left side since no hair grows there. The left side of his face is a ruin with no ear but only a hole. There is a twisted mass of scar around his good left eye. Slick black flesh is pocked with craters and deep cracks that ooze red and wet. His eyes are grey. On his jaw, bone shows. He regularly wears plain armor and a distinctive helm sculpted into the shape of a snarling dog's head. Loyal to Tywin Lannister.

    Age: 22

    +3 Duel
    +3 Survival

    REGIONAL BONUS

    Casterly Rock

    • "All the gold in Casterly Rock...”: A famously rich region, the vaults of Casterly Rock are said to be filled with more gold than those of any other city or castle in Westeros. All characters start with an additional 50,000 Gold Dragons.

It is carved into a great stone hill, giving it excellent natural defenses, which are added to by thick walls and towers. Casterly Rock has never been taken in recorded history. It is the second largest castle behind Harrenhal. +3 to defense rolls and can garrison an additional 200% of its levy. If the fortress does not have at least 1,000 men protecting it, -1 to siege rolls.
    • The Bowels of the Rock: The rocks prisons are renowned as the foulest and darkest prisons in the world, worse than the black cells. -3 to escape rolls when captured in the rock.
    • The Harbor of the Rock: An unusual site, the Rock even has a harbor carved into the mountains complete with wharves and dockyards for trading ships. Not big enough to hold it's own fleet but surely large enough to allow trade directly to the Lannister fortress. +5% income bonus.

Default Re: Casterly Rock, Seat of House Lannister

I've been getting some questions about the true nature about what I have planned for the Lannisters, and here's my initial RP post for it. PLease no replied past this point until Friday
    --------------------------------------------

Gerion Lannister was growing tired of listening to today’s problems. Soon he would hand things off to Kevan and go to the yard to train with the other men, his squire the young and last surviving Reyne, and Casterly Rock’s Master of Arms, Gerold Gould. Mornings were usually spent in such a way at least three times per week. Lord Tytos would sit in court perhaps once per week, or else he was out hunting, wenching, or dithering. The man now in a rapid state of physical decline hadn’t touched a sword in months or years, and his mind was slowing. With Tywin away in King’s Landing, it fell on the other Lannister brothers to keep things running smoothly. Gerion, proud as ever, believed he had done a good job of it. What’s more, he was popular, easy to befriend, and always wore a smile. Tygett was more like Tywin, diligent but almost melancholy. Kevan less so, Kevan had a kinder heart. Gerion snapped out of his reverie. “I’ve heard enough.” He said, calling out to the farmer who had brought the petition. “Unless you can produce the original title to land, I dismiss this claim against your neighbor. Plant your crops to the east of the brook or not at all.” “But my Lord!” the astonished petitioner replied “the fire destroyed…” “Enough!” Gerion stood from his throne and with him the members of court. “That is all for now.” He left as they all bowed into an archway and down a flight of stone steps where he ran into Kevan. “Come to take your shift, eh?” Gerion said with a smile. “Going to play swords with the boys in the yard?” Kevan replied sarcastically as he pushed past the younger man. “I’ll be there before long to remind you that you’re not the most skilled sword in the Rock.” Kevan continued up the stairs. “Bold words coming from the man put on his back by Clegane two days past.” Gerion retorted. “Sandor is some sort of ape. He doesn’t count.” Kevan said before disappearing. Gerion continued his descent, arriving in the yard. “Where is my squire?” he called loudly.

In the meantime Tygett Lannister waited for his brother’s return from King’s Landing. Tywin had worn the Hand’s badge for years now, but as the King’s mental state continued to deteriorate, Tywin had the good sense to bow out sooner rather than later. About an hour passed before banners became visible on the horizon. Tywin was returning to Casterly Rock. The eldest of the four Lannister brothers dismounted, handing his reins to a stableboy. Gregor Clegane brought up the rear, dismounting slowly. The huge man wandered towards an alehouse to spend some coin on wine and women. Tygett rose and walked towards him. “Tywin, welcome home.” Tywin nodded curtly. “How is father.” He said without a trace of mirth. Tygett’s own smile faded. “Sick, again. The Maester warns him against eating rich foods. The gout has returned and now a cough.” Tywin began to walk towards the castle “I thought your raven would be news of his death. I hurried back as quickly as possible.”

As the pair crossed the yard, Gerion caught sight of them and raised a hoot, drawing attention. “The King’s pet is back!” he made some gestures indicating sodomy which Tywin ignored. “Insufferable as ever.” Tywin muttered through gritted teeth. “And still he intends to raise they Reyne boy to knighthood. It is an embarrassment to the family and a mark on our honor. We all know where that kind of conciliatory behavior leads.” Tywin was referring to his father’s spineless forgiving of debt once his vassals took hostages or threatened war. Tygett listened on, he had heard this all before.

In the court, Kevan was hearing reports of the mining output of the week when Tywin and Tygett entered. He waited until all gathered had stopped bowing. “That will do, Kevan.” Tywin announced dismissively. “go join Gerion in the yard.” Kevan rose “I am dealing with the business of the day, brother…” He was interrupted by Tywin “So that’s what you call this? This is a circus. The Royal Court of that louse Aerys is more organized than this. Where’s your seneschal, your secretaries?” Tywin narrowed his eyes. “Now cede your seat.” As legal heir Tywin already had the clout to make such a demand, but his added reputation as victor over the Tarbecks and Reynes granted him even more of a reputation. Kevan hesitated. He wondered if Tywin had heard news of his plans and had returned home. If he had, Tygett would no doubt have been facing the other end of a column of spears at this point. No, Tywin must still be ignorant, and if so there was still time to salvage the situation. Kevan had counted on the Mad King doing what he did best with advisors that failed him, but Tywin’s sudden reappearance was completely unexpected. With Jaime out of the line of succession and Tywin surely headed to an early grave, Kevan thought he would fall naturally into his designed place. This complication was unfortunate.

“Of course brother.” He said finally and rose. “Welcome home.” He smiled unconvincingly and departed for Lannisport, he would need to act swiftly…

Tywin took his seat and proceeded with the day’s business. It seemed that for now Kevan had come to his senses.

A large company arrived to the Gates of the Rock. The Boar of Crakehall fluttered openly in the breeze, and the band of knights. Riding up to the Gates, the leader of the band - Lord Roland Crakehall - requested a meeting with Ser Tywin Lannister.

Crakehall stood proudly before the real Lord of the Rock. "Ser Tywin, I have come here to ask you about the policy of the Westerlands in the mess that the rest of Westeros is creating. With Lord Stark and his heir murdered, it means war."

Tywin had heard tell of the happenings in King's Landing. It seemed Aerys had finally snapped. He feared for his son, Jaime. Aerys trusted his guard, but a Knight of the Kingsguard was sworn to obey the King, no matter what the order. If Aerys prevailed, Jaime might survive...but so might Aerys. If Aerys lost, his son would surely not survive. Could he forsake his son to such a fate? Was this even a decision he could make? No, Jaime was a man now, and he had taken a vow. He must follow his own path. "I have heard of the news from King's Landing, Roland." Tywin began. "If it means war, then war there shall be. However, I have not received a call to arms from the King." He said simply. "I would not raise the banners unless the King commanded it." And then only as a pretext as I decide which side to support.
    ------------------

ooc: Tomorrow/Saturday, Tywin will get wind of Kevan raising troops (since that would be known in game anyway, but also some hard information to hide so close to the Rock) and will begin to respond to it in turn. Lord Tytos' condition has worsened and has been deemed terminal by the maester. Both sides will declare their intentions and release propaganda that will inform the lords of the westerlands, if they choose to become involved, the pros and cons of either side. Participation will be completely voluntary, and neither side will attempt to call the banners.
    -------------------------------------

Word spreads quickly that Lord Tytos Lannister, Lord of Casterly Rock, has died of an overexertion (caused by lovemaking, but this last detail was not widely distributed...). Tywin Lannister, in accordance with the laws of the Realm, has assumed the Lordship. He has been challenged by his brother, however, and so a bloody contest would take place. Tytos, having been hastily laid to rest, was now out of the picture. Having become aware of Kevan's plotting, Tywin now begins to react, raising troops of his own.

ooc: All of this is public to Tywin's faction:

Tywin Lanister ascended the steps and took his seat on the great wooden chair set upon the dais. Tygett was with him, on a lower seat. Tywin's gold flecked eyes darted to each of the present men. Gregor Clegane, Tygett, and Sandor Clegane. All these men had stayed loyal to the true Lord of Casterly Rock. Gerion had fled of course, him with his Reyne squire. “Well, here we are.” Tywin began. “In a serious predicament. Kevan and his fellow turncloaks have occupied Lannisport, and my rule has been immediately challenged. Evidently, Kevan thinks he can do a better job.” Tygett gave a short laugh. “Furthermore I have received a raven from the Eyrie, the Arryns invite me to a meeting of lords of the realm t discuss the actions of King Aerys. It seems two Starks have been burned for treason in the capital, or something of that nature. I cannot very well become involved while I am fighting for my own rights in the Westerlands. For now both Lord Arryn and the King must not look to Casterly Rock for aid. Now, that being said, we have begun to raise troops. Tygett, read the lists.”
Tygett rose and made the announcement:
Guardians of Casterly Rock (elite infantry): 900
Skill: These troops gain +3 to battle rolls if fighting in the Westerlands. This will be divided by their ratio in the fighting forces and decimal points rounded as normal. Therefore, this unit type must compose at least 1/6th of the clashing infantry to gain a +1, 1/2 of the clashing forces to gain +2, and 5/6ths of the clashing forces to gain a full +3.

    Westerlander Knights (elite cavalry): 600
Skill: If fighting in the Westerlands, they gain +2 to rolls, subject to ratio calculations.

    Mercenary Light Infantry: 900

    Mercenary Heavy Infantry: 300

    Mercenary Polearm Infantry: 300

    Mercenary Archers: 300

    Mercenary Light Cavalry: 300

“As you can see.” Tygett continued “We have amassed quite a formidable number of men in a short period of time. We believe Kevan will offer battle, and when he does, we shall sweep him from the field.”

“I shall attempt to treat with him.” Tywin continued “But I fear it will all be for naught. This treason has been planned for a long while now. Ser Gregor.” Tywin called the man forward and the Mountain responded by bowing. “Yes M’lord.” He bellowed. “You will command the vanguard of our army, I expect you to be merciless. These men may be my kin, my brothers and cousins, but they have betrayed both the sacred bond of family and the legal bonds of lordship. For this they shall be given no quarter.”

Lord Tywin marches now to engage the forces of my rebel uncle, and maybe he shall win and end the matter for good and certain. All the same, we will be happy to have your troops take the field."

After the council, Tybolt arrives at Casterly Rock to see Lord Tywin. He paused for a moment to look at an image of Tytos Lannister who was now freshly deceased, then a statue of his grandfather, Gerold the Golden. A servant would come up, gesturing for Tybolt to follow him to where Tywin was to meet with his cousin.

Tywin met with his cousin in a great tower built into the Rock, it rose high, and held a commanding view of the surrounding land to the west. Within a comfortable room with chairs and a table was set up. "Hello, coz." Tywin began. "It was a cryptic message, but I got it. What is on your mind?"

Tybolt walks into his cousin's presence, bowing his head to Lord Lannister. He was now the Lord Paramount of the Westerlands after all.

I feel that... with the blood of family spilled within Lannisport, that it may not be fitting for my brother, Gerold, and I to remain there. It has become cursed with the jealousy of Stafford.

Tybolt was no superstitious man, but he believed that strange forces still worked within their world.

I desire that either my brother or I should occupy a new keep as Lords, loyalists to your very person, as an example to others who did not follow you. I know there are a couple keeps available and I would ask for your Lordships permission to occupy one of them as our new home. As a den for loyal Lannisters to thrive once more.

    And thus, Tybolt boldly stated.

I ask Your Lordship to name me as successor to the Reynes and allow me to occupy and rebuild Castamere as her new High Lord. To turn a once traitorous den into one who is loyal to the core. Grant this to me, my lord, and you will never need to worry about those lands once teeming with un-loyal subjects. You will only hear of their prosperity, their happiness and their loyalty to you, as Lord Paramount. They will prosper under a loyal lion as they did before the Reynes turned traitor.

Tywin spent some time in silence. He looked out at the vista for what seemed like a long time. Finally he rose and poured two cups of wine. He handed one to Tybolt. "You are a Lannister, Tybolt." he began "But what you ask is great indeed. The loyalty of my own family, now, is uncertain." He sipped the wine. "And yet your blade ended Kevan's life. He was my brother, but he was a traitor. You have proven your loyalty to me, but I cannot help but remain skeptical of all my relations. Castamere, once restored, will be a mighty seat indeed. Were I to grant you this boon, I would demand your utmost loyalty." Tywin set his glass down. "My conditions are this: You will rebuild Castamere. In return, the Lordship of Castamere and all associated vassals will be transferred directly to Casterly Rock. You shall be my direct sworn man, in addition to Lord of Castamere. As such you will act less as a High Lord and more as a Leiutenant or Captain of the Guard with regards to wartime rank. In addition, once Castamere is rebuilt, I will require you to pay taxes at a rate of 10% as well as providing me with 300 mounted knights funded at your own expense. These terms may be lightened as time goes on and you further prove your loyalty." Tywin sat, ready to listen to the response.

Tybolt remained quiet for a moment as he took the cup offered to him. He quietly bows his head, thanking Tywin for the offer. As his cousin spoke his terms, it was more than enough for Tybolt. He had no doubt in this mind that, despite the terms made, this was still a boon to his family. After he glances down at the wine, Tybolt would speak plainly to the Lord Paramount.

I shall accept your terms, my Lord. I only ask that you allow my family to gain next years tax revenue from Lannisport in order to ensure our funds remain strong while Castamere recovers from her rebuilding.

There was still the matter of Gerold however. Tybolt felt he could not keep his brother without some sort of reward for him too.

May I ask, my Lord, what could be done for my brother, Gerold? As I fought, he helped eliminate conspirators within Lannisport, kept my brother's widow as well as Lady Crakehall and Lady Lefford and all of our nieces and nephews safe as I battled outside the walls of Lannisport. He is a good and loyal man and I desire that he be compensated for his deeds too. I know he will be content and grateful if you grant him anything that shows your gratitude towards him.

Tywin smiled an empty smile. Things had gotten a bit greedy for him, but he was no stranger to this sort of politicking. "I cannot remit any further the taxes I have placed upon Lannisport, to my regret. However, I shall honor Gerold with a position worthy of the loyalty he has shown. "I name him Captain of the Guard of Casterly Rock. His duties shall be to maintain, train, and command all standing troops at the Rock and shall answer directly to me for all questions regarding my most loyal soldiers." Tywin arched an eyebrow as if to dare Tybolt to ask any more favors.
