Medieval 2 Total War has encountered and unspecified error and will exit ---HELP

I have a new system and can not get the game to work.
AMD Athlon 3700 2.2
512
GeForce 7600 GT

After building the PC and installing everything needed I then installed the game. It worked the first time, but with no sound (I had forgotten to install audio drivers). I installed the audio and now when I select play from menu I get a black screen with Medieval 2 Total War has encountered and unspecified error and will exit.

Any assitance would be appreciated.

Bump, because I have the same problem as this guy.

Reinstall the game so it can find the audio drivers.

Make sure your system is fully upgraded with the latest downloads and patches from microsoft or whatever operating system you use. If your finding a specific fault like video card or sound card then I recommend going to the respective manufacturers website and try to download the latest drivers from there.
