The Principality of Antioch/County of Tripoli
Units
Tier 1
Bohemond IV, "The One-Eyed" Prince of Antioch-Tripoli
By 1212, the succession to the County of Tripoli fell to the Princes of Antioch, and would remain so until both the county and the Principality fell at the end of the 13th Century. Bohemond would face difficulty keeping his title to Antioch, being forced to compete at various times with his late brother's son, Raymond-Roupen, the Armenian pretender.
Antiochene Knights
Descendants of the Norman soldiers who conquered Antioch with Bohemond of Taranto in 1098
Dismounted Knights
In the 13th century, the Franks began to take a particular interest in local Christians, largely due to the new ecclesiastical emphasis of Pope Innocent III, who sought to bring all Christians under his authority. Among the crusader states, Antioch was the most Eastern-leaning due to its close ties with the Byzantine Empire and the Kingdom of Armenia. The Prince of Antioch often did not participate in crusades, and despite owing homage to the King of Jerusalem, most princes of Antioch avoided becoming embroiled in the politics of the Kingdom of Jerusalem as much as possible, instead forging relationships with their eastern christian neighbors and the new hordes of Mongols spreading West. As a result, Antioch's roster will NOT have crusader units, and will instead be supplemented with eastern Christian units.
Heavy Armenian Auxiliaries
The Cilician Kingdom of Armenia has a complicated history with Antioch, and by this time the two nations were in and out of fighting over the succession to the throne of Antioch. Many Armenian troops were to be found fighting among the Latins of Tripoli and Antioch.
Georgian Swordsmen
The Georgians were a proud people, fierce with a sword. They were respected by the Latins and Muslims alike, and were the only non-Muslim pilgrims allowed to enter Jerusalem armed.
Antiochene Infantry
Antiochene Sergeants
Maronite Archers
The Maronites were a Christian sect concentrated in the mounains of Lebanon, and were highly favored by the Franks. They were especially valued for their ability as archers.
