    Default WHERE are my PRISONERS????

Hello, I've just installed the patch (italian version), but after a winning battle the pop-up of what to do with the prisoners never display, is this normal?
I'm playing with Venice and I have won 3 battle against the bysantine, one siege on stay on defense, one field battle on the defense and another one in attacck, but no prisoners

Did you actually take prisoners? You can only take prisoners by "killing" retreating units, units killed in combat don't count.
Worked for me all the time until now, no problems...

I take a lot of prisoners in each battle.
Now I've just started a campaign with England, do an auto-resolve battle against the french and I take prisoners.
Does just Venice can't take prisoners?

Maybe there is some problem with the patch. Did you just continue your old campaign? Although the save games should work with the patch, it could be that they got corrupted non the less...

Sommo James, I share your experience. When playing the English, I got the window asking me what I wanted to do with prisoners when I beat a Scottish or HRE army, but not when I beated a French or Rebe army or citty (I'm pretty sure I took prisoners in all cases).

Well with rebels you can't take prisoners. Or can but can't do anything with them.

To save making another thread, does anybody know what's happened to the option of slaughtering prisoners mid battle? It seems to have been removed because I can't find it anywhere. I can't believe they removed so many perfectly good features in this game.

I've been frustrated more than once, when I've routed and captured several stacks of units, only to get beaten by the 3rd or 4th wave of reinforcments, and then see all the captured enemies still alive when it goes back to the strategy map.

It seems that an "exit and reload" resolve it, or at least I has resolved for me, keeping my old save game.

What part of that is odd?

Its not like the guys you took prisoner are going to say...

"hrmmm our enemy got beaten by our reinforcements, oh well time for us to go find them and hand ourselves over again"

There is nothing odd about the prisoners showing up after the battle.
The original poster would like to have the ability to kill the prisoners
during the battle, so that they do not show up. The feature was present
in Medieval: Total War, and I looked for it one time that I had sallied, and
had to go back behind the walls because of reinforcements.

It is really annoying to have the siege engines you destroyed in a sally
show up in the assault next turn. Annoying, and deadly.

Go back and read my post again.

In previous total war games, there was a button on the battle map that allowed you to kill all the prisoners you'd taken captive. If you'd taken a lot of prisoners in a battle, but were ultimately going to loose, then you could kill them all before the enemy reinforcements could liberate them. You could slaughter them... so they'd be dead.......

It seems they've gotten rid of this feature, and now they're automatically released.

I never understood that feature in MTW. Who exactly is killing the prisoners? Certainly not your troops who are busy you know... fighting. It was an exploit in MTW, since whenever you were losing you could just kill all the prisoners. The idea is for the winning army to have taken prisoners, and the losers not to have prisoners.
(This post is not directly solely at the poster to whom I have quoted, it is simply building off his statements)

That must've only been in MTW; M1 and M2 are the only ones to have had prisoners. I guess they didn't like it enough to keep it in RTW, and I'm sure they considered the option in M2 but left it out deliberately. I'm sure they would give you a gameplay or historical reason for leaving it out rather than saying they forgot.

Just so all of you know, you can't take prisoners when fighting rebels, since there obviously isn't anyone that would pay for their ransom.

I reckon it would be cool if you were able to keep prisoners indefinitely, as long as you want, sorta like POWs, to be released once a ceasefire comes into effect.

This was not common in medieval times, except for nobles
You ask for steak, I bring you fish. You say that you think steak is better than fish. I say that fish is much more popular than steak so obviously it's better. You say that no matter how good the fish is it can't be better at being steak than the actual steak we used to serve. I say that's just your perception and you're entitled to it but you should accept that fish is the future and that's good. You begin to say something but I stab you in the eye with a fork and run into the kitchen.

Well, then at least for nobles. Sorta like MTW where you could release all the soldiers and kill the nobles, etc.

Maybe a mod can make that happen someday or the next TW game?

Got my highest ransom last night on my Spanish campaign. I captured the Portuguese king, heir, and about 500 routing men. The ransom was a little over 20K and I knew they wouldn't pay but went for it anyway 'cause I figured I had 'em screwed either way. Heh, they refused to pay of course, and the campaign map froze up with the Portuguese sheild at the top of the screen.
