Endless "hourglass" loading at the start of turn

Thread: Endless "hourglass" loading at the start of turn

Default Endless "hourglass" loading at the start of turn

Turn 167, I end turn. All goes okay, I get a popup "This year in history", and after closing and minimizing it, the game stays in the "please wait" mode. It's not hording, that wouldn't happen at the beginning of my turn and no faction is in position to horde. It happens every time, I even tried toggle_fow to see everything during turn...still the same. I tried waiting ~30 mins, no effect.

Save attached, version is 2.2f with the new animations.

Sorry, I can't read saves. I never have the current version installed.

One of the others might be able to help, though.

There is also a minimize button on each scroll at top right. It often blends with surroundings quite well, I didn't notice it for years....

    Wow

I've read if you don't read the history you can crash for some reason.

Tried for close instead of minimize it?

Yeah, I usually close it, I jsut minimized it once when trying to fix the bug, just in case...

Anyway, I loaded previous save and surprisingly, it worked. I suppose it was somehow related to siege of Halicarnassus..in the bugged save, I sallied out, this time I stayed put and took them out in siege.

It could be a bugged map tile specific to the direction they're attacking from.

I have the same problem playing the Romans at the beginning of Turn 202. My earliest savegame is from turn 200. But no matter what I do in turn 200 and 201, there is the endless hourglass in 202.

Same issue, did anyone find a solution.
Turn 103 as Rome, the hourglass spins endlessly (tested 50+ min)

2.3, no submods (or rather I do have a icon mod, but tried it without as well)

Maybe some ai problem. Use toggle_fow in the console comands and check what is happening at that moment

So judging by other players in other TW games - it seems the general problem with this error is a rebel settlement doing something funky - perhaps a riot or defection or something similar?

What should I be looking for and if it is AI shennanigans, how do I fix it?

Went through the ai turn with toggle_fow on, didn't look like any scripterrors, navigation or pathfinding problems, actually a pretty uneventful AI turn.

It happens after I read the history popup on my turn though, even if I read it through or just accept it.

So I've discovered a rebel army in Britain trying to cross from Scotland to Ireland and it seems to be stuck in a loop going back and forth. It appears to be never ending. I've tried moving the character with console commands but for some reason the game can't seem to recognise him. Anyway, I assume this is what is causing the never ending hour glass cursor. Is there anyway to fix this at all? I'm so far into the game I just really cannot but arsed starting again haha

    EDIT:
Managed to get past the bug!
All I did was held down space bar to speed up the move action of the rebel army and then I spammed clicks on the end turn button and eventually the turn ended and the bug seemed to stop. Also noticed that the general died as well and now its just a rebel army commanded by a captain.

    EDIT2:
So the following turn a Pritanoi army got stuck in the same loop lol nvm

    EDIT: 3
I tried the same tactic of spamming the end turn button. The turn ended and it appears to have stopped the loop as well.

Got the same problem too with the rebel army crossing in Britain, tried the space bar and spammed click but didn't work. I tried loading afew turns earlier, but it always got stuck on the same turn. Anyone else got this problem too? Any known fixes or anyway i can rescue this game? Am 128 turns, will be a real pity if i need to start over again

Here is a confirmed fix for this bug:

The crossing between Scotland and Ireland has a "landbridge" (the blue wavy lines) but the tiles are also close enough that units can cross without the landbridge (similar to the Hellespont/Dardanelles crossing). Apparently this redundancy is what's confusing the rebel unit, leading to the "perpetual motion" problem.

Fortunately, this bug can be fixed and it will even work with ongoing campaigns. You need a graphics program such as GIMP, which you will use to open the mods\EBII\data\world\maps\base\map_features.tga file. It's an odd looking file full of colored lines and dots, but up in the top left of the file you'll see a short green line, which is 4 pixels long (there are two other green lines near each other and farther to the right, but don't touch those). Change all 4 pixels to the same black background as the rest of the file, and then save/overwrite. Next, delete the mods\EBII\data\world\maps\base\map.rwm file and then load up your save game. It will take a bit longer than normal as the game has to regenerate the map.rwm file, but once it loads, the landbridge will be gone and with it (we think) the perpetual motion.
