Graphics card dead ?

Hi

I have 128mb ati radeon.

Around a week ago coloured bands started appearing on my screen and these strange 'face' icons.

I tried re-installing the drivers then used about every alternative driver out there.

No joy.

I then unplugged it all, blew off dust etc and plugged in all in and it seemed Ok again.

Couple of days later I had to plug in new network cable and I knocked the PC tower a little - screen has gone all mad again.

Cant get it back.

Is my card dead ?

Tried different monitor - same thing.

It does sound like its on its way out. Make sure its securely seated and the screws holding it in the case are tight enough to stop it moving about.. but otherwise i cant think of much

Maybe the heatsink is loose. If the video card is fairly old its likely that the heatsink is mounted on with those plastic pins. Those come off pretty easily. You should take out the video card and see if the pins are lose or not.

Ok - the heat sink is one of those huge Acer fans about the size of the card itself so its fairly heavy.
