    Default Worcestershire Hunt

As promised after George's marriage to Aurora, William organized a hunt to be held on his estate in one of the best hunting grounds in the Kingdom. William sent an open invitation through the entire realm including the King, hoping that he may attend the hunt.

George rode on his sturdy bay gelding. He was a comfortable rider and could ride for longer than most (logistician +3) though he much preferred to walk than to ride when possible.

(Seeing as I have gotten no response)

As the party made its way towards Malvern Chase, a group of riders and gamekeepers came forth from the woods. Among them was the senior gamekeeper who oversaw the entire region. He looks at those present before speaking.

Do my Lords have permission from His Grace, George Plantagenet, the Duke of Clarence, to hunt upon these grounds which belong to him?

Welcome brother, you've packed well I hope. My sister would kill me if you came home with a cold.

It seems you are lost and travelled onto my estate, malvern chase is that way.

Welcome Sire to my estate, I'm quite happy you were able to make the hunt. Has it been long since your last hunt?

Viscount Newselles watched the ensuing drama with a wide grin, feeling as if he was part of a group of unruly students being lambasted by a tutor. He gave a meek wave to the king regardless, not having expected him - or indeed anyone other than men of Worcester - at this hunt.

    George laughed.

So this is where she gets it from. You'll be cutting up my food for me next!

"And your home is behind you. Now unless you have permission from the King or the Duke of Clarence, leave."

The gamekeeper says without being slightly amused by the words of this lord.

    (Seriously?...)

    William bowed before the King

"I get out as often as possible."
Edward replied, looking down at Worcester from horseback. At least as often as he spent time at court, the King would organise and participate in hunts across his vast collection of estates. "What will be today's game, then?"

Thomas Stanley showed up to the hunt. He had been puzzled when he heard a "Mercer" was having a hunt, but he had been passing by when had first learned of it - thus he had attended. He hurried over to the King, surprised to see him. "Your Grace! I am surprised to see you! I did not know random peasants could host hunts. I was under the impression that these lands were Tiptoft's and any peasant hunting here was poaching. I myself came here for the fun of watching the little common born wretch be slung up. The peasantry must know their place!"

"In fact, they're my brother, Clarence's." Edward replied to Stanley in greeting as the Earl of Wiltshire apparently also made himself welcome to this event. "Which begs the question as to why we are hunting here? Don't you have your own estates, Mercer?"

The Lord Bishop of Lincoln, Philip Repington, was traveling south to Wiltshire when he heard of a merry hunt to take place at Malvern Chase. Although a bit out of the way, the Bishop decided to participate, reasoning that if he was successful in catching some game, he could distribute a portion of the meat among the local peasantry. The Bishop made his way to the staging grounds and hailed the gathered assembly.

The gamekeeper notices the appearance of the King, rushing over. He bows to Edward before speaking.

Your Majesty, this... poacher dares to defy the lands of your brother, the Duke of Clarence. He even attempted to circumnavigate my position by stating that this wasn't Malvern Chase, thus insulting not only me, but His Grace, the Duke of Clarence. As His Grace's appointed gamekeeper, I cannot let this insult go without punishment.

The gamekeeper glances back at the Lord Mercer before bowing once more to the King, Wiltshire, Lincoln and Newselles.

Your Majesty and his party are welcomed to hunt, however. But this poacher will be barred from entering and I must request that he is to pay a fine, in accordance with the trespassing on royal lands without a permit.

"Well, there is a simple solution to this." Grinned the king, looking about him at the gathering throng of nobles that had been bolstered by the arrival of the Bishop of Lincoln. "This is henceforth a royal hunt, with all guests of mine present here eligible to hunt." Edward then looks upon Mercer, wondering what should be done with this wayward Earl. "Lord Mercer can hunt with us, with my permission... Though he shall tend to the baggage, for now." The King then bust out with laughter, raucous and containing a hint of delightful mockery.

The Earl of Cambridge had been taking his ward, Prince Edward, out on a tour of the peasant hamlets near Ludlow as part of a lesson on rulership, so that the Prince of Wales might witness his subjects at work. However, the news of a hunt (to which the King was invited) caused him to throw the day's lesson plans out the window and head on over to Worcestershire to join it, both for his own sake and his ward's: this could both be an opportunity for the little Edward to bond further with his father, and to at least observe a hunt in progress if he was too young to directly participate.

The Bishop made his way through the small assembled group of men when he stumbled upon the King quite unexpectedly. The Bishop had clearly failed to read the heraldry while he hurried to discard his Bishop's robes for proper hunting attire. "Your Majesty!" he said, inclining his head respectfully. "What an honor to meet you, sire. I am Philip Repington, the Bishop of Lincoln."

With the arrival of the Prince of Wales to the hunt, father and son embraced heartily, the King pleased to hear the younger Edward recount his progress under Cambridge's tutoring. Edward then greeted the Earl, embracing him heartily as a brother in a mighty bear-hug. It appeared the king was in a fine mood this day.

"Cambridge! A fine day for my son's first hunt! Haha!"
The King extended greetings to Lincoln in turn, ruffling the hair of his young nephew as well as engaging in cheerful discourse with Kyriell's own progeny. "A grand day out, and we have to thank our dear Worcester for it!" Beaming, the King looked over at Mercer, then turned back and winked at Cambridge.

Edward had apparently not recognised that the man clad in hunting clothing before him was in fact the Bishop of Lincoln, and thus had a pleasantly surprised expression etched upon his face when Repington made his greeting. "Well met, Lord Bishop. I must say I did not recognise you in such an attire, my sincere apologies for it."

Not long after the departure of the gamekeeper, a group of riders were heard approaching their party. The banner of House Percy could be seen from afar as the sudden appearance of the young Sir Harry Percy, Warden of the Scottish Marches, arrived to join the hunt. He came with a few hounds in tow, some yeomen borrowed from his father and a group of riders. With the Scottish-English border relatively peaceful, Percy felt he could use the fresh air and a hunt to make the day less boring. Sir Percy dismounts his horse before the various high-ranking members of His Majesty's court and realm, bowing to the King.

Your Majesty, it has been a long time. Not since the days when my sister was Queen and, back then, I was still but a boy turning into a man. My father sends his regards to you and hopes you accept me on this hunt.

Percy's arrival soured the King's good mood somewhat, though it was through no fault of the knight himself. However, Edward visibly winced when Margaret Percy was mentioned.

"Of course you are welcome, Sir Percy. You are right, you are a man grown now." He smiled weakly, determined to reveal nothing in his countenance, and was arguably quite successful.

Percy notices how the King worded his sentence, making him curious for a moment. Then Harry returns to his reality and smiles once more.

I haven't spoken to her in ages. I hope she is well in Kent, or wherever she was put by your generosity. My father also thanks you for seeing to her every needs.

Now...who's to handle our baggage while we engage in today's sport?" The Prince of Wales had a baggage train befitting, well, a prince for whichever unlucky soul served as the King's baggage handler to worry about.

Edward's mouth tugged into a wry smirk.

"That would be Lord Worcester also. He's managing the entire event."
Edward grinned, winking at his son, he didn't quite seem to get the jest. Nonetheless, the boy seemed happy that his father was in a jolly mood.

Cambridge laughed at that. "Indeed? Well, what a generous host our Lord Mercer was turning out to be!" His own sons, much like Prince Edward, didn't seem to get the King's meaning either, though a knowing smile was starting to form on his daughter Soleil's face as she processed the joke.
