Thread: Bug thread

    Default Bug thread

This thread is for any bugs you find in this mod. Please do not post any issues you have with this mod in other threads or start a new thread.

In order to fix a bug I'll need the following information:
    • Did this bug occur on the campaign map or in battle (including custom battles)?
    • Did the mod crash?
    • Did the crash occur during your turn? If no which faction's turn was it?
    • What you were doing?
    • Which faction were you playing as?
    • If it's a problem with a unit which unit wasn't working?
    • If fighting another faction which faction were you fighting?

Here's a list of things am I currently aware of but am unable to fix. Even if you post about them in this thread I will be unable to fix them.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    • The units on the start screen have texture problems. For an unknown reason some unit parts aren't displaying correctly.
    • The scabbards on the cannon units don't function correctly.
    • The radar map is incorrect (I have no idea how to get all the pips in the right place).
    • The encyclopaedia lacks entries for new units and buildings (I don't know how to add these).
    • The intros have not been remade.
    • Certain campaign models (settlements, towns, ports, farms, trade nodes, and trees) don't appear if you go too far east or west.

I've encountered a consistent crash to desktop when attempting to enter a naval battle with Korean trade ships, specifically when loading is about to end.
Upon investigating, I found that the Korean "Large Trade Ship" causes this crash in custom battles as well, but the Chinese Sha Chuan does not.

Strangely, the original crash I encountered in campaign mode occurred when fighting base game Japanese "Trade Ships" that were in a Korean navy.
I suspect these were spawned by the AI's cheats rather than captured, based on the circumstances.

There were also Korean "Large Trade Ships" involved, but only in in what would have been a reinforcing navy, and I was fighting a night battle.

The Chinese Sha Chuan and all other ships available to Joseon in custom battles haven't caused crashes for me, but for some reason the ships modded with added cannons fire backwards, i.e. the cannons on the wrong side of the ship fire, and the cannonball flies out backwards and travels through the ship without damaging it, then impacts with other ships as normal.

Also, are the Shimazu supposed to have Wako units? They specifically have Katana Wako, which differ from and are inferior to the DLC Mori Raiders; Bow Wako, which for some reason have 300 upkeep despite being Hattori Bandit-like stats with none of the stealth/kisho training; Wako Trade Ships, which have normal trade ship stats but are so expensive as to be nearly useless; and Wako Medium Bune, which is more expensive and inferior to the ordinary Medium Bune.

I'm running version 2.4.? (whatever version came immediately before 2.5) as 2.5 caused skill trees for non-Japanese agents and generals (other than jinyiwei/other ninja types) to have a buggy layout, with incorrectly placed skills and arrows not corresponding to actual connections between skill cards, some of which were also mixed up.

Oh, and Tusi Crossbowmen are incredibly overpowered once in range and their invisible bolts somehow destroy buildings, but they're helpless in melee and it's hilarious so I don't mind.

Sorry about the delay in replying. It took a while to investigate everything.

I believe this problem was caused by the officers one the Korean trade ships, as the models used unit parts that I'd either removed or renamed. Though these battles did load for me with the officers only missing their helmets.

The new ships were made by The Yogi and since CA didn't provide the files for cannon ships this may be why they're firing backwards. I'll let him know about this.

Shimazu are meant to have Wako as I decided to give some of the remaining Japanese factions extra units.

The Katana Wako and Mori Raiders are different units. I plan to give Shimazu a version of the Mori Raiders and make the Wako units cheaper (I didn't change the stats of Japanese units, which is why I missed them when updating the stats of other cultures).

While looking at the units I also noticed several I had forgotten to add to the unit cap and some I had added to a unit cap but had forgotten to assign this unit cap to a building (making the unit unrecruitable).

I fixed this in the 2.5.1 version.

Oh, and Tusi Crossbowmen are incredibly overpowered once in range and their invisible bolts somehow destroy buildings, but they're helpless in melee and it's hilarious so I don't mind.
Historically crossbows had short range but could do a lot of damage. Not sure why they can destroy buildings as I didn't give them this ability.

I plan to release a patch that fixes the bugs you mentioned as soon as I can. Though I have to finish upgrading the startpos files before I can do this.

I tried switching to the latest version again, but I'm still getting the odd skill tree layouts, as well as some buggy textures in the clan selection screen. It appears as though small sections of the textures have been stretched out over too large an area, as they appear to be of far lower quality than they should be. This was predominantly an issue with the body textures, but one of the heads was also affected.

So has the reverse cannons problem with the Naval ships been fixed yet? Its pretty frustrating to continuously turn my ships for the cannons on the other side to fire.

About that issue you have. I think that because you enlarged the campaign map, that it doesn't render it. Even if you enlarged the playable are in db. I think this is due the camera renderer. I have investigated it a little bit and as you know, inside the raw map data you have a campaign camera. But the weird thing is that I can't find it anywhere in one of the pack files. So, I investigated a bit further and I found the campaign camera inside the startpos.esf (CAMPAIGN_ENV => CAMPAIGN_CAMERA_MANAGER => CAMPAIGN_CAMERA). If I compare the values with FOTS, than all the values are the same, except one in the third tab (vector coordinates). the last value is the maxy value (in FOTS startpos.esf = (-54, 0, 266) in Shogun2 startpos.esf = (-54, 0, 70). Try to enlarge that value, to see if it works.

    How did you access this?

I changed the values to (-640, 0, 320) and it didn't make any difference. This may be because the camera is for the Y axis and I expanded the map along the X axis.

You only have the option to enlarge in to the Y axis. The first two values are in that case not for the x nor z axis. If the startpos.esf has data about the camera campaign, than that info has to be somewhere.

It may be in one of the data.pack/UI files.

    Below are some examples:

    data.pack/UI/theatre_map.luac map related.
data.pack/UI/frontend ui/grand_campaign_japan seems to control which factions we can select.
data.pack/UI/campaign ui has many campaign files, including campaign_radar and radar.

Just found a tool that will let me turn luac files into lua files. I'll check these files and see if they may be useful.

Yes, correct. I use taw's luac converter. For me it's also interesting to know, because I want to do a project (after my other major updates) that makes the campaign map bigger. But, I don't want to do it without that camera issue. I am sure there has to be a work around.

While there may be a work around it's difficult to know what it would be. The problem seems to be that the map and rigid splines will appear but the settlements, towns, farms, ports, trees, and trade nodes will not. It may be to do with the warscape DB tables as they control the things that don't appear.

Hi and thanks on developing such a great and ambitious mod

I'm not sure whether it's a bug or not, but trade ships do not work. I've placed my ships in the trade spot near that little island just south of Korea, but nothing happens (see the screenshot below).

Same thing goes on with the trade spot located just south of Kyushu.
(Btw since the map is broken and that I therefore can only see one trade spot on the map, are there any others than the two I just mentioned ?)

    Best regards

Hi there Uanime5, i sent you a DM by accident regarding this bug about the trade nodes. I thought it was the wako trade ships that were the issue, but now i think about it, I didnt see any other active trade nodes in my game. Anway so i dont expect anything, but i seen in your last post you said you have fixed it? Are you Sure? If you are sure, are you sure you have uploaded the correct fixed file, as I have downloaded and played the most recent Morning Sun 2.8 download and it is still visibly broken. I Will Try and download it again (17-04-18), and If it does/doesnt work, i will post and update the community.
Anyway, i share viviyeps sentiment, this mod is brilliant, and its people like you uanime5, who keep the total war series alive and strong.
Kind Regards, i eagerly await a reply, Fishbong ^^.

UANIME5 DUDE, i think DM messages are giving me , so im replying to your DM HERE. My apologies.
Hi man, i just typed out this whole message and then twcentre logged me out, losing the 20 minute long detailed spec message i had written out. Fml.
Anyway, i have Opened the ming.pack file in PFM, and to get straight to the point, i cannot implement your fix, as i cannot 1) Find the pathway "db/unit_stats_naval"... there are only 3 Naval pathways that i can see and they are ("db/unit_stats_naval_crew_tables", "db/unit_stats_naval_crew_to_ship_categories_tables" AND "db/unit_stats_naval_tables")
I have tried to access the closest one of these to the path you specified (*unit_stats_naval_tables*), and I get an Error, blocking me viewing or editing the file. I also get this (see below) with alot of other pathways when trying to access or view them.
"ming.pack - Unhandled exception has occured in your application - Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name: index"
Anyway im at another dead end. I worry that you may have to edit the files yourself and reupload the whole mod to twcentre again. I would attempt to fix it, and repost the solution on the other two threads i have posted on, but I dont want to just lead people into another error requiring your attention.
Ill help out however i can anyway man, and apologies if this has occurred at a busy time for you.
Anyway i eagerly await your response on how to proceed.
    Kind Regards, Fishbong.
