    Default Mercenaries

Hey, all. Been following this mod for about a year now, but stopped lurking to post this question I had.

How are mercenaries going to be handled in the Medieval Kingdoms Total War campaign? Is it going to be kosher and in line with the official Total War games, or is it going to be handled in a different manner?

I ask because, in my opinion, mercenaries have tons of potential in the medieval era - especially in the high and late periods. After all, mercenaries were extremely important in medieval Europe, and entire companies formed due to the need for trained, professional soldiers in armies. From the White Company, to the Catalan Grand Company, to the Varangians for the Byzantines, mercenaries were widely utilized across Europe at the time.

To be honest, I'd be a bit disappointed with a simple mercenary recruitment system, picking generic, unnamed units from a list. Would unique, named, and historically accurate mercenary units be available across the campaign, with new ones appearing as the old ones fade away or grow even stronger?

I understand that making an entirely new system for a mod might be more work than you guys would like to handle, especially at this stage of development, but I was wondering if the mod development team had any ideas for this kind of thing.

I don't have a complete answer for your questions, but something along those lines have been tackled before, so in a way, "yes". Named mercenaries area already spread across the rosters. All the ones you've mentioned are manifested in the game (although, at times slightly alternate names).

Thorolf was thus armed. Then Thorolf became so furious that he cast his shield on his back, and, grasping his halberd with both hands, bounded forward dealing cut and thrust on either side. Men sprang away from him both ways, but he slew many. Thus he cleared the way forward to earl Hring's standard, and then nothing could stop him. He slew the man who bore the earl's standard, and cut down the standard-pole. After that he lunged with his halberd at the earl's breast, driving it right through mail and body, so that it came out at the shoulders; and he lifted him up on the halberd over his head, and planted the butt-end in the ground. There on the weapon the earl breathed out his life in sight of all, both friends and foes. [...] 53, Egil's Saga
I must tell you here of some amusing tricks the Comte d'Eu played on us. I had made a sort of house for myself in which my knights and I used to eat, sitting so as to get the light from the door, which, as it happened, faced the Comte d'Eu's quarters. The count, who was a very ingenious fellow, had rigged up a miniature ballistic machine with which he could throw stones into my tent. He would watch us as we were having our meal, adjust his machine to suit the length of our table, and then let fly at us, breaking our pots and glasses.
