Well, some factions don't have access to the boats that are required to sail the Atlantic, Scotland being one of them. What year are you in, it has to be 1492 before you get the new world, as that's when our friend Christopher Columbus 'discovered' the America's.

Everyone can get over there AFAIK. I've been there with England, Spain, Portugal and Denmark. Haven't played any muslim factions yet though.

I'm pretty sure I (playing Spain) got the message about the world being round on 1500AD and was able to construct atlantic-able ships from the second largest shipyard already (caravel). The next one gives you a stronger version (carrack).

This is probibly right, everybody might not be able to go. England, Spain, Portugal and Denmark were nations that COULD go in real life btw. Only one that needs to be tested is russia. I have not unlocked it yet and might decide to play it when I do. I could edit that file for it but I rather do it fair.

is it possible that it just might not happen? I have a Spain campaign that's up to turn 180 (vanilla) and still no word on any discovery or any thing. I have yet to see the new world period... how does it work? is there a video or an announcement or something?

Im going to the New World with Russia now, so it is in fact possible for anybody to get there. I have gone with every single other faction - they all have the possibility to recruite a ship that could travel through those waters. There. Question answered.

what is the new world like? about how many provinces are there and are they all aztec, what area does it cover? (a screenie would be nice)

    SPOILER

Haven't got a screenie right now, as I'm not in America at the moment, but there are 6 provinces.

North America: 1 province (around Texas and Florida I think)
    Cuba (Caribbean): 1 province
North-Central America: 3 provinces, 2 owned by Aztecs, only one landing beach
    South America: 1 province

As you can see, you'll be fighting the Aztecs for only 2 provinces, every other one is rebel and very weak.
The Aztecs field about 2-3 (from 1.0; don't know what they're like now) full stacks of very powerful warriors. They might look funny but they beat your soldiers to hell if you're not careful.

The provinces are quite rich with resources so you can make a lot of money if you can keep them under control.

I'm currently playing as the Moors and the year is approaching 1550 at least. I'm pretty sure the new world event has popped up...but no ship of mine is able to travel west. I've tried sending a War Galley and Laterna (spelling?)...but no luck. Any idea what kind of ship I would need to send to get it all the way over there? Also, how many turns does it usually take? Thanks!

You need to build a naval drydock first in order to train a Baghlah. Traveling west takes a lot of turns. You have to bring your reinforcements with you. Happy sailing.
Officer to a soldier who refuses to fight: There three types of soldiers who don't have to fight. They are called KIA, MIA and POW and you are not one of them.

    Tosa will be missed.

Every faction exept mongols and maybe timurids can reach americas. Mongols can only build the 1st level ships, not sure about timurids.

To easily check it you just need to click on your castle, open building browser and then select the city buildings tab, and click port. Youll see dockyard and naval drydock even though you havent gotten gunpowder/world is round. Or select city and click castle buildings tab in the browser.

Ships you can sail to america with are Carrack, Grande Carrack, Caravel and Baghlah.

its fairly easy to see if you have had the event. Notice that blank space to the left of everything on your map when you start the game? If it suddenly isn't blank anymore the world is now officially round!

Yeah it takes alot of turns to go to the new world for the first time, the route you need to take is the one above england. stay above that line for a bit and than go to the first rebel island you see there.
Take inf and cavalry on your first ship, dont take cannons cause your ship is too heavy than and it will go very slow, ergo, more turns to get there.
