    Default The Great Raid of Lycia

    OOC: My ships arent done constructing but I asked Ponti if it was ok to RP this before their completion and that was alright.

    The Great Raid.

    Map

    Mere days after the completion of his Armada, Pro-Consul Marcus Aemilius Lepidus stand aboard his flagship. 105 ships set sail from their port, carrying 4800 Legionaries.
    Their destination? Lycia. To raid the coast and amass wealth. The construction of the fleet made for a gigantic expense, an expense Marcus wouldn't even spend at fountains. Thus he set out, with a fleet larger than anyone saw since the Roman victory at the battle of Cape Ecnomus against Carthage. The Asian countryside robbed of tree's to manufacture such an.. Armada!

    The Armada makes it way to the Lycian coast to hunt Pirates, capture them and their loot.

    Military Forces
    Trireme = 23,
    Quinquereme = 10
    Hexareme = 3

    Lycia would be Lycia II if I follow the map correctly.

    The coast of Lycia is very mountainous and no roads lead to the area from other parts of Asia, so it is only accessible from the Sea. Hundreds of inlets, small harbors, fjords, and other discreet places make ideal places for pirates to make their base.

    The Roman fleet is to remain in formation, scout the harbors while remaining alert for ambushes.

    the following harbors will be scouted:

    Antalya,
    Kemer,
    Finike,
    And Demre.

    If there are no ships around the ships will disembark the legionaries and they will proceed to plunder the cities/ villages.

    OOC: they are present day cities, couldn't find a good old map. These harbors all have clean lines of sight and are directly at the sea.

    The Roman fleet moors outside of Attalea (Antalya) The largest city in Lycia.
    The local magistrate, surprised at the appearance of such a large Roman fleet comes down to see what the Romans wants.

    Xenon, the local chief magistrate looks shocked
    "Stolen goods, Roman?? I have no idea what you are talking about. We are an independent city state just managing to survive among these mountainous crags. "
    He gasps.
    "What right do you have to demand anything form us?"

    Marcus sighs. "My men tell me you are Xenon. Lets get this strait, I'm the pro-consul of Asia, elected official of the Roman Republic. I have a fleet larger than any in the last 300 years at your port. I have almost 5000 legionaries disembarked in your port. " Marcus walks around the man taking a pause.

    "This is how it's going to work, you're going to give me a list with all the Pirate hideouts in Lycia. Than you will pay for my expenses. Say 10.000 Denarii would do it. If the hideouts are not correct I will come back and burn the city state. If you do not pay, I will enslave EVERYONE, burn this pile of till the last house and make sure you see your family suffer for many years." Marcus said angered before regaining his calm. "If you agree you'll be seen as a valuable ally of Rome, we will open up trade and you will continue to proper under our protection."

    OOC: I'd say the modifiers are 15/20. 5 for the fleet, 5 for the legion and 5 for the power difference of the Republic vs the city state.
    And following the rules I am entitled to: Bonus: Gain the rank of Ex-Consul, +1 to NPC Interactions. I also have a +2 with the mob lol?

    "Why are you coming here to threaten us, Roman? We have done nothing to Rome."
    He pleads. "We have no tie to these pirates, they cause us problems all the time! As shipping is the best way for us to get our few luxuries. "
    He looks disgusted. " And you want to burn this city to the ground? Who do you think will take over once you leave? Just more pirates and their ilk, thats who!"

    He sighs.
    "the pirates have hideouts all over, some move annually, some are more permanent. But we are too small to try to track them or invade them, it would be foolish for us to waste ships following them to their hideouts, we would just be captured."

    ooc: still want a roll?

    Marcus sighs again.

    "I never said you needed to hunt them. I will." Marcus said while gazing at his monstrous fleet.

    "I propose this treaty."

    Aemilius Lycia
    I. You will be annexed into the Republic.
    II. Provide me with a map that shows known pirate bases.
    III. A one time tax of 7.500 Denarii will be paid.

    "You don't have a choice."

    OOC: Do a roll if you need to. Tbh there's no city that would refuse it at these odds. + favorable treaty.

    OOC: so I can consider Lycia II annex ?

    Next stop would be Kemer.

    Navy will ill scout for enemy navy around Kemer, if none are present the legionaries will again disembark in the port of Kemer if it's safe to do so. Meeting with again the highest official

    The floatilla sails down the coast to the small village of Kemer, it appears to be a poor fishing town. The poor chief with a long beard, Theodius, welcomes the Roman to the large hall to share some food.

    Scouts to the west report very little activity, although the rocky coast is not the safest place to navigate and they fear getting to close to the shore. 2 triremes sent to the east do not return

    "If you can rid us of them it would be appreciated.'

    Marcus rubs his chin, hanging back and thinking.

    "How often do they arrive here chief? Would you perhaps be interested in a mutual interesting venture ? If you help me spring a trap, we will engage the pirates, destroy them and take their hideouts so we may eradicate their existence in this region completely. " Marcus said eagerly awaiting the response.

    "They are mostly active during the trade seasons, they hide in small groups, an attack either one or two ships and either take their cargo or ransom any important persons on board. They have spies in all the big harbors so they know who to go after. And they have small fast ships that can usually evade any big ships like those Hexes you have out there."

    "I don't know how we can help with our small fishing boats, those are not worth the pirates trouble.

    "Here" Marcus says while handing the man a purse of 500 denari.

    "Spread word in all these ports that a unguarded Roman transport of 10 triremes and one Hexareme will pas by next month. There's a bay to the east of Myre. They will remain in that bay to rest before making the pass to Rhodes. If you could pass that on I would be grateful. Could you maybe pass me a list of these harbors ? "

    "Now if you would excuse me, I have some reports to follow up upon."

    The Roman fleet of 103 ships sets sail towards Side. To follow up on two triremes not reporting back. The Romans remain on their guard not to fall for any traps.
