    Default distant LOD textures

Hi! as many others, I too have to commend everybody involved with this mod. I've tried a few custom battles and I'm blown away, my interest in rome has been revived!

I've noticed a lot of the old models have been ported, which is great I love them and much prefer them to the ones from attila (face-wise). However in rome 2 and now here, roman face textures have a rather ugly 3rd (or is it 4th?) LOD render. It's this one:

Now in here it's not so bad, I'm using highest unit details and the faces don't pop up until a fair distance away like this:

    Normal LOD:

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

    Mad face LOD:

Granted it's a minor minor thing. And most likely just a psychological thing on part of the viewer. But I always hated those distant LOD faces, especially comparing them to other textures like barbarians which didn't look nearly so out of place.

Is there any chance these distant LOD textures will be reworked or perhaps a LOD distance mod that would allow the player to choose at what distance to render the last LOD?

Thanks, and keep up the good work!

I've never noticed those before. Unfortunately while possible it is a very long drawn out process to change that. About one hour for each LOD but there are like 25 Roman skins used

Yeah I suppose, although the same lod could be coppied over for every skin. just make scary faces non scary faces

Someone managed to switch off the very last LOD in TW: Warhammer though

I asked them if they could do a similar thing in Attila the answer is probably not, but I have been given a tip:

In case it can be useful to you: For TWW, I edited the line under data-> db-> variants_tables with the pack file manager. inside variants_tables, one of the parameter columns contains text lines for each unit in the game, for example: empire_swordsmen_lowlod. I just removed all those and bingo, lod scaling gone.
So maybe there is a way to do it? I know cheatengine can intercept and change these values but it's cumbersome, possibly VAC-detectable, and you need to set it everytime.

If we did his suggestion you'd all have about 5 frames per second on AE.

Oh yes I know, I'm not actually interested in removing the last LOD - that does have a great fps impact.

I'm just wondering if the method can be applied to removing the LOD level I've describe in the OP. Or.. more importantly if this method can be used/explored to set LOD level further e.g. if currently it's activated at 25m from camera, make it activate 50 meters from camera. Do you think this is feasible as a submod? If not any ideas how one would go about that?

Well, looks like Cheat engine will have to do. here's how to do it if anyone is interested:

That infamous image..... What RII could have been, and what this mod will do instead

Yes LOD issues are a thing, but download a camera mod and you can zoom into the troops, I've had a lot of problems with my Shogun 2 having distant LOD stuff like that.

Even Assassins' Creed has that annoying LOD thing.

thanks, which camera mod would you recommend?

The LOD issues I've solved with CTengine, a bit annoying to change it each time you start the game, but workable and no FPS impact. I've simply eliminated 3rd LOD by setting it same as 4th LOD to value 30 (30 meters)
