Quintus Caecilius Metellus waits for all the Senators to arrive, he has posted lictors on the steps up the Capitoline Hill to prevent any crowd or assembly from disturbing the meeting.

Iulus and Sextus Iulus arrive. Quite shocked by the sudden turn to violence.

"If anyone tries to summon the Plebeian Assembly now, you will not help matters, The Comitia and Forum should have no large crowds in them after that riot, and if you try to gather another one, I will have you locked up."

"Iulus shut up. You know nothing about the mos maiorum, and you have no imperium here. The Senate deals with foreign commands because the common citizen of Rome has no idea about these things. From what I know, you have screwed up Macedonia and Greece, and Crete was a disaster. Keep silent."

After watching the Senators file in, in various states of shock and mourning, the prayers are said and Quintus begins calmly.

"Gnaeus Julius Iulus, I have no idea what you are doing. You have been holding races and giving out free bread, trying to gain favor with the people it seems. That is well enough, but to try to subvert the Senate by getting a foreign command through the Plebeian Assembly is against the mos maiorum. The Senate deals in foreign affairs, where all the people are represented, not just the plebeians. Do not try to do this again." He states bluntly.

"Now we are a consul short, and we shall decide what to do about that now. We have two for a reason, and it something were to happen to me, we need to have another consul."

Gnaeus stood and looked at Quintus coolly. "It is not against the Mos Maiorum. The People have the right to elect magistrates. All I did was seek to gain command by requesting vote before the Assembly - as is my right. The commander of legions is given imperium, and only magistrates posses imperium. I have acted well within the laws and traditions of Rome."

Gnaeus smiled cruelly. "So you are attempting to prevent a gathering of the People? Such a thing is tantamount to treason. Besides, no Assembly can be called for at least a week - there must be notice."

Marcus Fabius Ambustus arrives as quickly as possible, lictor preceding him, shocked by the turn of events.

"Before we begin to cast aspersions upon each other for this heinous act patres, we must have a suffect consul appointed to hold the office. We cannot have one consul alone, especially when the year is so young."

"Fabius is correct, we need a suffect consul. And I would have Lucius Cornelius Scipio named as Consul. He ran last year and lost narrowly, he has the credentials and was a superb praetor."

"While I have no personal issue with Scipio, and believe him to be of impeccable character and abiltity for such a role, would it not be better to have a consul unaffiliated with this debacle for the remaining year?" He queries.

"There are no other eligible men to choose from, all ex-consuls are out in the provinces, except Albinus and he has the position of Censor. " Quintus says deliberately.

"A bad idea considering Scipio showed up to a simple debate and began slandering the names of past heroes of the Plebs. Sulpicianus' blood is on his hands, it was his slander that began the riots.

I would say he did it on purpose - save he is far to stupid to do so."

"I'm deeply honored by your words, Metellus"

He nods to the consul, while plainly ignoring Iulus' gibberish. Stern, he speaks again. Standing, all can see the blood staining the, otherwise, purely white toga.

"This very morning, we were discussing eagerly about marriage and several other businesses on his domus, now... he lays dead. I mourn his murder, patres, and I'm ready to take his mantle and honor my colleague's legacy. If you senators and both Jupiter and his kindred deem me worthy, of course"

He said, acknowledging Jupiter and the Capitoline triad.

"I still oppose the appointment of anyone involved in the chaos today to the most prestigious position in our res publica." Fabius points out. "All present must be called forth to explain the causes of the violence and disturbance; the people are still furious. It should not matter if a praetor, or any other magistrate, must resign to fill the consulate. It must be held by once capable of steering this august body through this conflict without swaying to one side."

"If no other candidate is named, then Scipio will be named suffect consul." Quintus states and looks over all the Senators.
