    Default Mod Awards 2016

    https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/ModAwards2016
At the moment you can vote for your favourite mods from across the Total War Franchise (although it seems centred on Rome 2, Attila and Warhammer).

I'm not sure whether it'll work, but try voting for the mod team as a whole if you vote for overhauls, eg "Ancient Empires Developer Team".
I totally stole this thread from the MKTW forums.

just a few of my thoughts as to why voting for mods this year is so important!

Also I'll be attending the mod awards this year so tell me if there is anything you want me to talk to the CA devs about (no warhammer stuff please)

    AE: Battle Balancing and BAI.

Voted -yeah ok we don't actually have the full mod yet but I have been keeping watch on this one and the team have done some pretty amazing work on it this last year.

Regarding modding, I'd still like to see the ability to mod the music added to Attila so we can include the RTW soundtrack plus original tracks from modders like Viktor Tarnholm who did some incredible work on Roma Surrectum.

Could you ask them when they will deliver that final patch for the AK? Tell them that you can't convert custom cities on made in TED, and then doing it on Terry - make sure you stress the point. We need fixes on Terry. Hope Doomon can also be there as well.

    Thanks.

Trust me, fixes to Terry will not change much in terms of modding capabilities. I don't know how many times I need to repeat this. Terry is not a powerful tool for really making proper changes, only visual ones to the campaign map for the most part. I could never get it to actually generate a tilemap, which is why I had to reverse engineer the file manually.

I don't see how "stressing the point" for converting custom cities will change anything, when Terry doesn't do that. That's not what Terry is for. If anything, that's something Bob would do. Terry is a an editing tool, not a processing tool. It's used to edit raw files, it's not used to convert raw files to a game-usable format. As far as I can determine Terry merely edits xml and perhaps also image files that can relatively easily be modified by hand. Terry isn't a tool that really allows us to do anything new, it's a tool of convenience.

I've repeated this uncountable times now, yet people keep acting as if Terry is some magical holy-grail modding tool. Do people not believe me?

I've offered to write out instructions to fix it before but nobody has ever asked. If you want to use Terry, you don't need CA to fix anything. I can't legally give a copy of a modified fixed file (lest CA ban me), but here's a diff-patch. Apply it to the TWeak_TerrainMetadataEditor.AssemblyKit.dll file. If you don't want to apply a diff-patch you can also do the change manually. It's incredibly trivial: just NOP out the byte at 0x00078532.

Note that even with this fix Terry is highly unstable. I doubt that's something CA will ever fix, even if they do make a change to solve the crashing bug upon startup (which I still doubt).

Now you can perhaps try to figure out how to generate tilemaps with Terry, because I've tried and failed...

Well I have never claimed to be an expert in modding. Terry wouldn't work because CA never bothered to patch it up. I don't understand this file reverse engineering stuff. Too complex, modding is hard. Converting a map into Tweak.... I wouldn't do it successfully anyway. This process of tile generating, I wouldn't get it. All I understand is that you create a map in TED, convert it through BOB and then it's appearing on Terry. If I remember, Darren said a CA member accidentally had put some sort of trigger which prevents the custom map from being converted. Thus we need the patch so maps can be converted into Terry. This is what I would like to be said at the modding summit because it has been a long time ago since they released a patch. And they did promise to provide patches. Worst modding support ever from CA. They were better in Shogun 2 than this.

    The only other problem is
that they are too obsessed with Warhammer. Hence why we haven't seen a patch in a while.

Only the first 2 steps of the process are correct as far as I know. There's nothing which makes battle maps appear on Terry. Terry is for the campaign map, not battle maps.

Terry does have some tilemapping functionality (and something about generating battle catchments) but I don't think it's truly relevant. as far as I can tell, the process of creating the actual binary tilemap files is something that would be within Bob's domain, not Terry.

This is really a useless discussion to have, however. It's simply easier to reverse engineer the file and manually modify the tilemap than to try to get CA's tools working.

Darren said a CA member accidentally had put some sort of trigger which prevents the custom map from being converted. Thus we need the patch so maps can be converted into Terry.
I don't know is that's referring to importing custom maps. I talked to one of the producers at CA for a while and he told me that Terry is hardcoded to assume that the campaign map filename in Terry is always the same as the vanilla name. That sounds like that is what is be referred to, but that isn't really an issue practically speaking.

    Also vote for AE!
Maybe after the campaign is released. I like Ancient Empires, but I don't view the battle mechanics alone as being worthy of a vote over other more complete and fully playable mods, such as Fall of the Eagles.

Talk to Mr J if possible. He posted about custom maps not converting. And yes it refers to importing custom maps. How do you reverse engineer and modify the tile? Sounds like a lot of complex stuff. Anyway I will leave it at that.

Mr J? Do you have a link to his profile or where he talks about importing maps?

It's a long and relatively complex process, and furthermore I don't intend to divulge exactly how to do it just now.

Frankly, if that work is done, I want credit for it. I've made the mistake of revealing things too early before. I do not intend to do it again.

Furthermore, just to modify the file I wrote a whole bunch of C# code to parse and generate the files - it's not a trivial process where I merely need to "reveal the secret"; it's an involved process.

He's the guy that is leading the LOTR mod. I will link the thread here. Alright too complex. I leave it to the modders to handle that stuff.

One thing CA needs is an AI like in your mod. Please.

AE doesn't do all that much AI wise but I can always share the values that tend to help them out with CA, though the Warhammer BAI seems much better so I think they know.

Here's a great post reflecting the current dismal state of the Attila's Assembly Kit, a request for a patch. This is why CA needs to fix it, more or less. This has to be raised in the Modding Summit for sure.

Another 'Known issues' thread. But look at the Terry post. Its a real shame they have never fixed anything much for modders except a few patches:

Also this stuff is from 2015, but its taken such a long time for them to just deliver one small patch, its horrendous.
