    Default Greenwich Palace

Built by Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester in 1433, this magnificent city house fell into the hands of the crown after Duke died in prison in 1447, haven fallen out of favour with the royal court; specifically Henry's Queen, Margaret of Anjou. With the Palace of Westminster becoming rather crowded, the King now uses Greenwich as his official court to receive petitioners and mediate judgement, with Westminster being used for more private and personal visits, as well as hosting both Parliament and the Privy council within its walls.

One of the lieutenants to the Lord Captain of Calais arrives in London under the orders of the Deputy-Captain of Calais, James Wenlock, to inform the king that the Viscount Wenlock has died from illness two weeks after the delegation to Burgundy left Calais, the Viscount's illness making him unable to join them.

Wenlock's lieutenant is admitted, finding the King to be in a most joyous and generous mood, granting petitioners very favourable settlements with a dismissive wave of the hand, a great grin upon his face.

"Ah, a man of Wenlock! I am most aggrieved to hear of the man's death. Tell your lord that he shall serve as Captain in his place, as a reward for loyalty."

The king is away from London, so the Lord Chancellor, Thomas Bourchier, is in charge. The cardinal wears his splendid crimson robes lined with soft ermine.

Stanley bowed stiffly, using his walking stick to brace his feet. "Your Eminence. I had wished to speak to the King on a matter regarding his navy - could you perhaps tell me where he went?"

It was obvious he had gone to Scotland - but best to be sure.

"The king is heading for Berwick as we speak, leading his armies. In his absence, as Lord Chancellor I rule the realm on his stead"

    Said Bourchier.

"I desire royal permission and aid to build a military port and dockyard on the Isle of Mann. Strategically it is the best placed port to deal with threats from the North, and any fleet dispatched from there can reach the channel in very little time. If the King wishes to build a true navy, he must also build ports. The Isle is a perfect location for such a port."

"Your proposal is sound, Baron Stanley"

    Said the cardinal.

"Such a base would greatly benefit our war with Scotland and put in check their ambitions in the North. Also, the fleet has been neglected of late and we do need a strong navy to protect the realms shores. However, this enterprise would be hugely expensive and currently the Treasury is strained by the war effort in the Northern border, your Lordship"

"To build the facilities I intend will be expensive and time consuming. However, I have the funds to begin the project myself - I simply need royal permission to pursue the project - grants and subsidies can be arranged in due course, when the treasury is more stable."

George Neville arrives from his brother's house of Erber to see the Archbishop of Canterbury, who had been left in charge of the realm in the King's absence.

    "My good Bishop of Exeter"

He gives Neville a ring to kiss.

"We have a task for you, noble George. The king wishes to be crowned as King of Ireland, per the own Irish peers' decision. But as you very well know, only a Pope can create a kingdom. As good children of the Church that we are, we must seek his approval; I can only trust this mission on you, Exeter. You and my nephew shall travel to Rome and manage to get His Holiness' acquiescence"

The cardinal's crooked nose menaced to cover his increasingly toothless mouth.

"There is also a matter you have to discuss with the Pope: Francis O'neill deposition and your own proclamation as Archbishop of York. Do not fail me with these, my noble and dearest Exeter. You shall receive a royal writ, demonstrating the King's support for all these... matters"

After kissing the ring, George Neville listens quietly to the words of Canterbury before taking the royal writ from his superior. He bows his head once more.

I will not fail you, Your Eminence. I shall ensure that this task is completed swiftly and properly.

George Neville arrives from his delegation to Rome. He bows to the Archbishop before kissing his ring.

His Holiness has agreed to make Edward King of Ireland only if the treaty that made Henry II Lord of Ireland is altered. His Holiness desires to make the tax to the Church worth a shilling instead of a penny now.

Neville then continues on, handing the decree from the Pope.

I was not able to secure the removal of Francis O'Neill, but due to his heinous actions that threaten both the unity of the Church and England, he has been deprived of his Primacy status. York can no longer dispute your supremacy over the clergy, Your Eminence.

Bourchier looked tired. He had to endure the London's merchants' bickering for two whole hours.

"It's something at least. He will no longer defy me; no longer he has claws"

    Said the cardinal.

"Your appointment will come in due time, like my nephew's"

I'll have to look for another bishopric...

A modest looking carriage arrived at the palace carrying Sanders Bening.

Stepping out, the man's clothes were the height of Burgundian fashion and they clashed only slightly against the long knife at his hip. The young artist made sure to show off his well turned calves to any onlookers as he exited the carriage, before ducking back in to retrieve his hat. It had a feather in it... a long light-blue feather that caught the eye. Placing the hat upon his head he strode up the palace grounds, this is where he had been told he could find the English queen.
