Nine days after the birth of Marcus' new son he is given his bulla and named Marcus Fabius Ambustus, much like his father. The household rejoices accordingly.

Gnaeus Julius Iulus arrives to the Domus of Fabius.

The door is opened by a young slave with attractive features - he guides Gnaeus into an atrium where Marcus would be seated, scratching down onto a piece of correspondence. He looks up at the arrival, rising to greet him.

Iulus looked tired and uneasy. "Marcus, Rome moves fast so I will speed to the point. Scipio is a bad choice for Consul. I will be going to convince a good man - Tappulus whom you have met - to stand as Suffect Consul instead. Will you back this?"

"Was he present at the riot?"

Marcus' immediate question would cut through Iulus' words as soon as he reached 'consul' - it was clear what rested on the Quaestor's mind.

Iulus smiled easily. "No. He was not."

"He would make a better choice than Scipio, then.." Ambustus grumbles, "though I would prefer Albinus, who has had no hand in this sorry state of affairs at all, if he is willing."

"Tappulus had no hand. My experience with Albinus is that he will be unwilling unless every star aligns. " Iulus cleared his throat and continued. "I would also like your support in the motion that never reached the Assembly. I am the most suitable for the task. I intend to propose it once again when this mess calms down a little."

Marcus shakes his head at that, throwing his hands up in an exaggerated display of exasperation.

"You ask for too much, Iulus. At least until your name is cleared with regards to your previous tenure I cannot support you. Once, if, Scipio's allegations are proven to be false - then I could support such a motion."
