    Default Gathering the Taxes

At the port of Ostia, the ships of Mergus' fleet are being loaded with supplies for their respective journeys to several of the provinces to collect the tax for the year along with any of the salt tax if it has been prepared by the publicani the provincial quaestors were to hire in each province to handle the collection of the salt. Sextus watches the process before turning to his brother and son. "Each of you will command one of the three convoys we will be sending to a province. Gaius, as out of the three of us you have the most experience sailing and fighting pirates, you will lead the three liburna and six triremes being sent to collect the tax from Hispania Ulterior from the port of Gades." Mergus then turns to his son. "Marcus, you shall lead the three liburna and four triremes to the port of Utica to collect the tax from Africa. I shall take the remaining liburna and warships to Athens to collect the tax from Graecia and Macedonia." "Father, is there anything else I should do while in Utica?" "See if dates are still a common commodity there."

The first of the three groups to leave the port of Ostia would be the convoy heading to Gades, departing in three columns, with the liburnas located in the middle between the two lines of triremes. The next day, the supplies for the second convoy would be prepared and Sextus would see his son off with his convoy, sending the veteran captain of one of Mergus' Quinqueremes with Marcus. The Quaestor and his convoy would be the last to leave the port of Ostia, with two triremes sailing ahead of the formation as scouts and the four liburna being surrounded by the remaining triremes and two quinqueremes.

ooc: this is not something a senator would be engaging in, and I am not comfortable with allowing Senators to act like equites.

ooc : I was only carrying out what the duties of a quaestor appeared to be according to the Lex Aemilius Tribulum that was passed, requiring the quaestors to be partially responsible for transporting the provincial tax from the provinces to the Aerarium. I guess this thread can be deleted then.

ooc: I appreciate that, but the quaestors will only need to consult with the Pro-Consuls and then the money will be sent
