Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
With the various neighboring Gallic tribes, the Proconsul first eyed the smaller neighboring clans of the Allobroges and Aquitani first to begin trading relations. A Roman by the name of Cassius would be sent, escorted by riders, to the speak with the chieftain of the Aquitani which laid on the border with the Roman Republic to the west. They were chosen as the first, by the Proconsul, to speak with, in the hopes of gaining favorable trade links.

Dumnorix of the Allobroges and Brennus of the Aquitani allow the messenger entry into their walled capital cities.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
OOC: Lucius send delegates to them, not the other way around, GB.
The dignitaries would both approach their appropriate destinations and offer formalities on behalf of the Proconsul. Once done, the Romans would discuss with the chieftains one particular question.
Rome desires trade with her Gallic neighbors. What could be done to create favorable trading relations between the Republic and your clan?

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
"Who are you?" Dumnorix questioned. These Romans were always so impertinent.
-------------
"Hah!" Brennus began "So the Romans come to us now wanting our wares, not unlike the Greeks before you. Are you some sort of merchant?"

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
@Dumnorix:
I am an attendant of the honorable Proconsul Lucius Atilius Regulus, a Roman who desires to build relations with our neighboring Gallic tribes and invigorate both economies with goods from your people and our Republic. Lucius does not desire war, but peace and with peace comes growth through trade and other methods. As the elected Proconsul of Gallic Narbonensis, he desires exactly that; trade to ensure growth between your tribe and the Republic of Rome.
@Brennus
I am no merchant, mighty Brennus, Chieftain of the Allobroges. No, I am but a simple attendant of the Proconsul, Lucius Atilius Regulus, of Gallia Narbonensis. He is working to ensure growth and prosperity, something that can be done through trade between our two borders. Trade that will benefit both your tribe and our Republic. We have goods from Africa, Hispania, Macedonia, Italia and many regions throughout the Mediterranean. Goods that could be of usage to you and your people, mighty Brennus. Goods that could bring only bring future cooperation between us.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
They both reply in a similar way "So the Proconsul thinks I am not worthy of meeting with him personally, and he sends his lackey?"

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
To that, the emissaries reply:
The Proconsul feels he is not worthy to stand before the mighty chieftains, who have ruled for years that eclipse his own career and performed great deeds that have excelled your people to greater heights and enhanced your own prestige at the same time. At the same time, he is working hard to improve the province of Rome he was elected to, work that keeps him awake well into the night and throughout the days. He is working to have Roman, Greek and Gaul work together, even going as far as giving the Gauls their right to freely worship their gods.

"We worship our gods freely, we are not conquered people under the boot of Rome." the chiefs reply
0/20 chance of success, the emissary is kicked out of the strongholds. Gallic relations with these two tribes worsen slightly.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
Learning from the words of his emissaries that returned empty-handed, the Proconsul, along with his experienced Legate, Titus, departs to meet with the Arverni chieftain personally. He came upon the walled capital of the Arverni, making it known that he desired to meet with their esteemed chieftain. Thinking upon the mistakes of the past negotiations, Lucius hoped to excel here. I will make Brennus and Dumnorix regret ever throwing my offers away...

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
Vercengetorix, the chieftain of the Averni, one of the most powerful tribes in all of Gaul (if not the most powerful) allows Lucius entry into Gergovia.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
Lucius had heard of the deeds surrounding Vercengetorix, which made the Averni the most powerful within Gaul. He would have to tread carefully and delicately. He approaches where the chieftain sits and bows his head to the Gallic leader. Once he was given the permission to raise his head and speak, the Proconsul would do so. The Roman hoped this would go better than the previous two delegations.
Mighty Vercengetorix, I thank you on behalf of the Roman Republic for accepting my request for an audience. I am Lucius Atilius Regulus, the elected Proconsul of Gallia Narbonensis. I have come to extend an offer of trade between the Republic and your mighty tribe in the hopes of forming new ties and lasting friendships between our two nations. Trade that will surely be of benefit to both your people and my kin. Just as I seek harmony and prosperity with the various communities of my province, I seek the same between the Republic's neighbors and Rome.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
The chieftain shifted on his wooden throne, atop a dais. The long wooden hall smelled of burning wood and Vercengetorix was attended by minor warlords and druids. "So you want trade." he replied in broken Latin. "And what will I get?"

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
"The Republic has much to offer as tradable goods. We have steeds from Hispania, grain from Egypt and Africa, fine craftsmanship from Greece and fine minerals from my homeland in Italia. Trade with the Republic, as you can see, can be a great boon to your economy as well as developing new ties with Rome for future benefits. Ties that would benefit both sides of our borders."

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
ooc: Sort of hard to establish. You would have been much better served doing an RP prior to this finding something to trade from the province (Massalian manufactured pottery, weapons, textiles, etc) instead of just vague goods. 1k I guess, don't have anything else to base it off of.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
"In the beginning, it will be around 1,000 denarii worth of trade. But given time and lasting relations, it will surely swell to great yields as goods flow between the Republic and the Averni."
Lucius pondered for a moment, contemplating whether to reveal his gift to the chieftain just yet. It might help convincing him, but so far things were going well and he didn't want to overdo it.

Re: Delegations to the Gallic Tribes
"Of course not. In fact, I had hoped for mutual treaties to be established with the trade. To protect our traders from brigands and ensure the roads are safe to travel. I will see that Massalian manufacturers also create products that would be of great use to our trading relations. In addition, I had come with a gift."
He turns to the side, beckoning his attendants forward with a chest. Within it was sparkling coin.
"A gift of 3,000 denarii from my personal accounts as a show of good faith and as a thanks for accepting my request. A show of what riches will come from this mutual agreement between our two nations."
