Campaign issue

For some reason I can't figure out, whenever I go to the campaign screen and attempt to start a new campaign, with any faction, it seems to take me back to the main menu, except that I can do anything but the campaign, and it's not really the menu, rather, it seems to be some sort of copy. It's hard to explain, but can someone please give me advice if you happen to know what's going on.

You have altered some game files in a way that isn't correct.
Simple answer, undo any changes you have made to the text files, if possible just drag your backups of the originals over the altered files.

However, I'm guessing you don't have backups which means you must reinstall if you cannot remember what you have changed and err unchange it.

well, thing is, I only altered the unlockable faction list in the desc_strat folder so that all the nations except the not able to be unlocked would be playable. Also, I altered the timescale to .50 so that the number of turns would be multiplied. I think it's possible that the turn alteration is the most likely candidate for the error on reflection.
