    Portrait of Duke Francesco Sforza

Captain Reinhart was ordered to wait before he was able to meet the Duke of Sforza. Duke Sforza was busy meeting with his old friend Cosimo De Medici to ensure stability in the lands of Italy, it was during the reign of those two great men that peace ruled over the lands of Italy since the treaty of Lodi, the peace treaty served as a 'balance of power' in the politics of Italy. Captain Reinhart was given a short guide throughout the city, under Sfoza reign the city prospered again and many construction projects were initiated to give Milan back its splendor of the past. Captain Reinhart found the city under transition from the Medieval arts to early renaissance art. Under Sforza reign the duchy of Milan became much renowned for its Humanists that resided there, one such a Humanist was Francesco Filelfo who was given freedom from the Duke to write his works, he was also a adviser to the duke.

Once Reinhart completed his trip he was granted an audience with Duke Sforza, the duke was inspecting his recently painted portrait made by Bonifacio Bembo, the portrait perfectly resembled him. Surely even a captain like Reinhart must see the difference in style of Italian art when compared to the arts that is being produced in Reinhart's own lands. The Duke did not move away from the portrait and he was not alone in the room, he was surrounded by his own son Galeazzo Maria Sforza and his adviser Filelfo. The Duke softly touched the portrait

Is it not a beautiful portrait, Switzer?

    Captain Reinhart smiles and bows.

Yes Duke Sforza. It is a marvelous painting. One of the best I ever seen in my life. I enjoyed the tour of the city too. But for business Duke. I fought for the Yorks in England, King Edward IV. Now, I am planning on proving my worth to the Lancesters in France. They are looking to buy guns, shot and powder. They need a lot of it and sent me to deal with you. We need as many as you can sell or give us. We don't need the men but if you have any trainers, we will gladly take them too. May I ask what is your opinion on the English conflict if you have one by the way? It is a honor to be here with you.

The gout-riddled Duke of Milan sat in a chair, a cane within arms reach and a deep cup of wine to his right. His son, Galeazzo Maria Sforza, was next to him. The aged man snorts slightly at the remark of business.

And why should provide for you so that you can prove yourself to the Lancasters? And as for that war of the roses, do you see how much I care?!

The man bellows at Reinhart, probably from the numbing pain in his legs or else.

England's hardships are hardly a concern of mine, mercenary. Nor the fact that you need a right of passage to prove your manhood to the losing party. What can Milan gain from a bunch of unlanded nobodies who have barely a penny to their a name nor a soldier to carry their banners? Whose authority is nothing more than the length at which they can piss over a wall? What does Milan expect to gain in return for giving you our guns?

My Lord, I am sorry if I offended you. If you assist us now, when my Lord becomes King of England, he can make sure a lot of money can come your way. I myself am an experienced Captain and perhaps I can get you an discount on Switzers for any military issues you may need to settle. But like I said in my former point, you will make friends in high places. I am still on good relations with King Edward IV of England, and he has no knowledge of my actions here. Perhaps, if you could help me give weapons to the Lancester forces.... I can help you get even more money from letting me take weapons back to Edward.

Reinhart bows and awaits his reply. He smiles. Nobody realizes it, but it just appeared to him his life isn't all that bad after all. If he dies, no one will care. If this mission fails, he doubts he will be of any use to the people he was trying to help. If he goes back to Edward, he will be potentially be treated as an spy. No matter what side he picks in this fight, there is an chance he may die before he can prove himself, so Reinhart is tossing all caution to the wind. If Edward forgives him, he will be set for life with him. If the Lancesters give me a chance, even better. As much as he is trying to shred his mercenary ways, it is hard for him to do so.

Yes, your child lord become King... with what? He has no army, no advantage, nothing! I would lose rifles to your cause to which you cannot even pay for them!

The Duke of Milan is hardly impressed. To him, the promises of some mercenary sent by the court of Lancaster meant nothing to Sforza. They were all vague and undefined promises.

I don't need relations, Captain. England is hardly worth Milan's time as she is too far away to help us. So I will ask again, what can you give to Milan that is concrete and not some collaboration of words?

Reinhart never had an issue like this before. He failed to grasp the toughness of the leader of Milan. He curses Edward IV in his head, for his incompetently, and he curses Clifford for sticking him in this situation. He is paying now for an life of an mercenary captain.

My Lord..... I will take my leave now. I am sorry to have bothered you. If I may, I will return later. Perhaps later, I could bring you some actual things that would... change your mind.

    He bows and exits.
