    Default Phalanx bug?

Whenever I fight with phalanxes I normally use them on defensive mode
and simply click on a destination beyond the enemy army (on once they encounter the enemy they stop and effectively hold the line). Just doing this holds the enemy and I use other forces to kill the opposing army. Due to their extreme lack of kills in this way though, I recently tried turning off guard mode and when they contact the enemy they move forwardand and actually engage them but then start to tilt the phalanx to the right or left opening up huge gaps in my line. The same thing happens on bridge battles, I set them on one end and all is going well until one of my phalanx units tilts out of position and all is lost. I am not sure if this is because of Darthmod or its just vanilla code, but I only ever started playing phalanx civs after the formations for them got modded. Either way a fix would be appreciated.

Also, on a somewhat related note, what does the "extra shielding protection" ability of the Roman legionaries do? And is this ability activated by putting them in protective formation? And if so, what does the protective formation specifically do for units that can go into it but do not have the "extra shielding protection" attribute?

    1st post:
This is RTW vanilla related. In guard mode they stay put in formation while when this is off, the unit tries to attack by moving constantly to push and gain an advantage over its enemy. But if you let this automated it leads to its doom unless you know when to press and unpress the button.

    2nd post:
DarthMod Romans have very special hidden unit attributes abilities and I have commented them in the text so that this is more obvious. The ability is constant and more obvious when you use the protective formation where they have more cohesion. It varies how you should use this bcs sometimes the protective formation can be less protective when attacked from flanks or rear.
But if you do this in balance you can tear apart any enemy formation with concentrated-pila charges
