The Battle of the Crossroads along the Adriatic coast, was a quick and decisive affair. Although outnumbered , the Italians were still in good spirits and believed their cavalry would prove decisive advantage, and it would have if, not for the Italian infantry getting destroyed. The Roman left, led by Gaius Aurelius Cotta overran the Italian right, and even when reinforced, they routed those troops too, collapsing the Italian right and soon the rest of the Italian line was in full panic, fleeing in all directions. For this Cotta was awarded a set of silver phalerae. Only the Italian horse had any success, as they held off the combined flanking force of the Romans, but it proved insignificant.

    Italian losses

    2 legions destroyed
    100 cavalry dead
    1900 men captured
    Quintus Poppaedius Silo: captured
    Gaius Papius Mutilus: killed
    Lucius Cluentius: killed

700 Italians , mostly horse fled

    Roman losses:
    Legion I -1000
    Legion II - 1700
    Legion III - 300
    Cav - 500

    Cotta - lives
    Marius - lives

    1. The legionary standards are ordered to be seized.

    2. The Italian prisoners shall be sold into slavery.

    3. The army advances to the Italian camp, where they intend to plunder it and rescue the young Iulus captured in the last engagement.

The slaves sell for 19000 Denarii

The camp is plundered for 10420 Denarii

Iulus is slightly thinner, but otherwise unharmed.

Sextus was grinning happily as he was rescued by his fellows. "Thank Jupiter! I thought I'd die here!"

"I would never leave one of my own behind." Sulla said with a smile. He had regained his humor in victory. "Come, we must return to Rome. The year is almost out and we must speed news of the victory to the Senate."

"None that I am aware of." he replied. "But I know that he lives."
