The Consular Army of Gnaeus Julius Iulus assembles into battle order to engage the Italian legions near Sutrium.
The Italians are a few miles outside Sutrium, which has remained loyal to Rome. It is a highly strategic town however, and it has stone wall fortifications. Its loss would be problematic for Rome.
They are camped at the east end of a plain with the southern side lined with a tree topped ridge. The north turns to small rolling hills , but that is a few miles away it should not play a roll in the battle.
(ill do the battle tomorrow if you send orders)
Italians 400 Horse
Scato's Legion 4500 men
Asinius' Legion 3700 Men

The two armies marched slowly toward each other, centurions yelling commands and words of encouragement to the new recruits. It was a fairly straight forward attack by both sides, with the Italians throwing out a small flanking force around the trees. Each side exchanged pila, but it had negligible effect on the outcome. They charged each other and at first it things went badly for the Roman left, taking heavy losses , while the right and cavalry held their own. The reserves were thrown into the fray and Iulus split off some of his cohorts to make up for the losses. These fresh troops helped turned the tide of battle, as the Roman left overran the Italians and wiped out half the remaining forces. While the Roman cavalry was forced into its own rout and Iulus held of the flanker maneuver. Seeing that he was now seriously outnumbered , Scato called for a full retreat, into their fortified camp, as his cavalry covered.

Iulus watched as the Italians retreated into their encampment. He had finally won a decisive victory against the Italian rebels. He waved over a Tribune and his officers and they made towards the Italians, under the banner of truce.
Gazing upon the battlefield, heavily bloodied but not wounded Marcus Aemilius Lepidus was at a serene peace. He had found his place in this world. He too as a senator would bask in the glory of this victory for Rome.
"Iulus, I think now it would be time to negotiate their complete surrender. Otherwise a siege of their camp would be wise if I might add. This will be a day remembered for Roman glory!"
Iulus grinned at Lepidus. "I would agree, my friend. Let us see if we can add yet more glory to this day."
The Italians show no desire to surrender.

The Italians are informed that unless they surrender before the end of the Summer, every Italian prisoner in Roman custody will be crucified.

"Consul, I again ask your permission to leave. I stayed longer than agreed. Either we annialite the enemy right this day or please grant me permission to burn my wife and son."
"I apologise, Marcus, you have been free to leave since the battle concluded, I should have given the formal honours. Return to Rome as you please."
The Italians are still refusing to surrender...

Every Italian Prisoner is crucified within sight on the camp, in a large, rough circle. The crosses face the enemy camp so they can hear their screams.
"I would not want to leave the last push friend if it is quickly executed. "Marcus said with admiration to his friend.
Iulus put his hand on Marcus' shoulder. "It's fine, Marcus. Go and bury your wife and son. The fighting here is finished."
"There's one more thing I'd ask Consul. My brother has talked to your son to honor our alliance in the coming election. I trust that given the performances the 5th legion showed under my command you will still honor our alliace and vote for me as the next consul while I help you attain your pro-consulship ?"
