Gnaeus is permitted to enter the Domus. Gaius was within the main area, eating his lunch when a servant came in with Gnaeus. The Roman stares daggers at the servant for not warning him. Gaius then permits Gnaeus to sit, having another servant take his meal away till after his unexpected guest had departed. Instead, wine was poured for the two of them, which would help the Roman not feel as hungry.

Gnaeus, I welcome you to my home. What brings you here? Shouldn't you be out making speeches to promote your nomination for Consul?

"Gaius, we both know very well that the politics of the Senate don't quite work like that. That is to say, you scratch my back, and I will scratch yours. A Consul needs Legates for his legion after all, and you are a strong choice for such a post."

What makes you think I am a good choice for a Legatus position, Gnaeus? Surely there are others more worthy than I.

You see that man? He is a slave by the name of Brutus, Brutus the Bold. He is whipping the new boy into shape. The seller said he was captured in Gallic territory. Some poor soul named... Aed the Agile. Or so they say.

"I find you to be a calm, measured and intelligent individual, Gaius. I find you to be a worthy choice for such a position because of these traits. There is, however, one other position I could attempt to grant you.

The Consuls of Rome have great influence within the Senate. While the Censors choose the Princeps Senatus, the Consul can influence them in their decision. I am offering to do my utmost to have the offer of that position extended to you. It will certainly not be set in stone, but I will attempt to secure it for you."

Princeps Senatus? I hardly think the Senate will approve of granting me, someone who has not achieved much, such a title so easily. Even if you were elected Consul, Gnaeus. That is a title that is given to the worthy and deserving after all, a man who is popular within Rome and who embodies the true principles and values of our Republic.

I have fared as best as a Roman could. I have not been able to step into my father's shoes, but I hope to change that, Cotta.

He offers the Roman a seat and some refreshments while they talked and watched the spar.

"Lack of achievement is a problem easily solved. As Consul I would be in the position to offer you a range of titles, from Legatus to Tribune Laticlavius to Preafectus Equitatus. Put your vote behind me and we can achieve much - together, tie your fate to mine and be in the position to be the next Consul come next election."

Cotta obliged his host, taking a seat and a cup of wine as he watched the fight intently. "I do not doubt you will be more than capable, if you're anything like your father." Cotta had not known the man particularly well, but they had been acquaintances of sorts. "Planning on running for office, then? Climbing up the rungs?"

"I am running for Praetor. I think it's high time I climbed toward the Consulship." Cotta replied, though he was unhappy that Regulus was making a bid for Quaestor. He already had made inroads into alliances around there.
"Quaestor, eh? Not Aedile? Each to their own, my friend. I think we can help each other achieve our goals, if you follow."

I am an average Roman, Cotta. I need to start somewhere where I can put my foot into the door, even if that means starting off as a Quaestor.

Gaius looks as the new blood is dragged away with Brutus the victor. He nods to the servant who bows and walks off to pay his gladiator his dues.

I aim where I know my shot can fly true. Every Roman has started off as a humble man; look at our founders, Remus and Romulus. They were orphaned babes that suckled from a she-wolf, yet rose to one day build the foundations of our glorious city and its Republic. And just as Romulus overcame Remus, so shall the humble origins be overcome by greater fortunes.

Marcus walked into the domus, and saw a gathering some strangers. He poured himself a goblet of wine, and walked up to Gaius. He spoke in his ears, "By the way, I applied for Aedile."

He turned to others, "Greetings citizens! Rather gloomy atmosphere in the Forum, is it not? It is as if the Socii are already at our gates."

Quintus is showed to where Gaius was, who was presently in what appeared to be a study area. In his spare time, the Regulus tended to write poetry or read old manuscripts left by his descendants, hoping to draw wisdom from them. Gaius looks up to see the servant bringing Quintus and dismisses the servant with a wave. The Roman reaches over, taking another cup and pouring it with wine which he offered to his guest.

Quintus Annius Milo, what brings you to my home?

Let us not tempt fate, Marcus. She is a cruel mistress if tempted after all. The Roman military will put this unrest to heel soon enough if the Italians dare to raise arms.

Milo gladly received the cup of wine and sipped it. It was a good vintage.

"Politics, Gaius Atilius Regulus, is what brings me to your villa."
