Subduing Leinster
Exeter gathered those Irish lords who would follow him. Supplemented by his own troops as well as those levied from the Pale, the force had marched south and set up a camp in Leinster.
Force:
600 Heavy Footmen
600 Yeomen Archers
300 Men At Arms
2250 Militia Archers
750 Light Footmen
Total: 4800

Re: Subduing Leinster
After his forces are gathered, Exeter sends an emissary to the Mac Murroughs, requesting that their king meet him on neutral ground under the banner of Christ.

Roll for diplomacy
Range: 1 - 10 (1 - 5, success. 6 - 10, unsuccessful)
Modifiers: -2 for Anglo-Irish relations, +1 for Exeter's success in showing the peaceful methods of his governorship
New Range: 1 - 4 success, 5 - 10 unsuccessful
Result: 3, success
The King of the Mac Murroughs, Faelan, despite his attitude, like other independent Irish lords, towards the English, is willing to come forth and meet with the Duke of Exeter on neutral ground. The King was middle-aged and lanky, with no significant features as a ruler. Beside him was a secretary, or perhaps an attendant, as well as few riders of his own. Faelan approaches the ground and remains silent, staring at the Duke.

Re: Subduing Leinster
"Your Grace." Henry begins, offering the Irish king a respectful bow of the head. "I come as a representative of the King of England and Lord of Ireland. Perhaps we can come to terms that satisfy us both."

Re: Subduing Leinster
Faelan, arms crossed, remains unresponsive for now. It was hard to tell if this irritation speaking or trying to assume the better position as a King compared to that of a mere Duke.
Terms you say? What terms does England send to me, a King of my own right and land?

"Your ancestor was the first to invite Henry Curtmantle here and bend the knee to his son, John Lackland. Since then you have unlawfully renounced your sovereign; you sit as an island in a sea of English ruled lands. Swear your fealty to King Edward, and pay him small tribute as token of your loyalty."

Damned English, thought Faelan. He was surrounded by English lords all around, even the seas his lands bordered on were controlled by the English. He would either risk imprisonment as a prized trophy like Welsh princes before or end up dead with a new lord installed to overlook his lands. The King of Leinster glances off back in the direction of where his home was. At least he could return home, alive.
Your terms are accepted... as long as my descendants and my people rule these lands.

Re: Subduing Leinster
"Of course!" Exeter grinned, "You shall deliver adequate tribute to Dublin before the year's end. May this be the beginning of a fruitful friendship."

Re: Subduing Leinster
With negotiations concluded, Faelan takes his leave from the English party and returns to his abode.
