One of Milo's Greek slaves took Albinus inside. There was plenty of movement in the house: mostly servants but also clients of the Milones. They were all talking about one thing: the murder of Drusus

Quintus himself reading in his studio, alone, until he was interrupted by Albinus' arrival. He rose from his chair and greeted the man.

"Ave Postumius Albinus. What brings you to home?"

"Ave Postumius Albinus. What brings you to home?"
"A friendly visit. Ave, Milo." The two had done business in the past, one having ships and ports and the other have excess produce to sell.
"How are the latifundia fairing this year?"

Milo nodded. He was disappointed but not surprized.

"That is indeed too bad. I will be forced to retire my postulation." He said. "However that doesn't mean there's no way for you and Sulla to help me."

"I will not run for any magistracy, thus ensuring Cornelius' consulship. In exchange I need your and Sulla's support for my bid for the position of Pontifex Maximus."

    Milo's face showed some concern

"This year? Fine. Next year is what worries me. This matter with the Italians is driving everyone crazy. The price of agricultural goods will skyrocket unless the people are ensured some stability, which, cannot be promised with honesty. Who knows what will happen now that Drusus has been murdered?"

    Albinus nodded in grim agreement.
"And thus also the trade routes will confuse and scatter."
Which was good for the smart merchant, but Albinus would not make light of Milo's potential misfortune.

"I've just heard you are to stand for Consul this year," he said, changing the subject, offering a positive tone.

It was a bizarre request, especially for one who did not currently hold and priesthoods. "Religious ambitions are never bad to have, but to aim for the highest priesthood in the Republic with little experience seems unwise to me. I think even with out support this endeavor may prove futile. Would you, instead, consider our support for the Consulship for next year? Adding our votes, and those of our clients, to your ballot would surely give you a great chance of victory."

ooc: Since there's been some interest I need to hammer out exactly who holds the position right now. Presumably it wouldn't be vacant but we could say it was held by an elderly senator.

OoC: Yeah, a vacant post for the Pontifex Maximus would be a huge deal. There's way too much going on right now with the first elections and all. Just have it be NPC until year 3 or 4. I tried to pull a Caesar but yeah it's just

    Milo nodded

"I understand. I will gladly accept your support for the next Consulship, after Sulla's"

Sulpicianus nodded his approval. "A wise choice, I think. It will be a strong friendship between the three of us, I think. With this coalition I believe we will be able to advance our mutual political goals."

Milo drank some of his wine, a bit resigned. He would hold no magistracy for the year.

"It seems our friend Sulla will have his hands full. Drusus' murder will only bring problems with our socii"

"You will hand the Consulship to Iulus and Sulla, then?"

"Ah, well my support was guaranteed already, I suppose," Albinus said, almost musingly.
"But if you wish to help me in return..." he paused, as if considering.

"I will seek the Flamen Dialis this year. Long have I felt a calling to the service of the gods in regards to res publica."

Milo thought about his answer for a second

"Neither Drusus or his opositors were right. I've said it before, concessions will have to be made if we continue to rely on the Italians for our legions. But to give them the citizenship all at once? It's silly."
    He paused.
"But to murder him? The tribunes are sacrosanct, it is against the Gods and the law to harm them. I am not surprized though, ever since the Gracchi, politics have taken a turn for the worse. Madness has progressively taken over, wouldn't you agree? To find reason and moderation is rare in these times."
