Baron Roger Clifford, one of the remaining high ranking officers of Lancaster awaits outside the offices of the King and Queen, hoping to have an audience. He was dressed well, with a navy blue doublet, brown leather breaches and tall leather boots. He had a sword at his belt and a black cloak slung over his shoulders, fastened by a silver breech in the shape of a wolf's head.

The Queen was on a hunt with a small group guards, upon returning from the hunt she noticed the former Baron, for she had heard that fool usurper had stripped him off his titles. Once she dismounted from her horse she addressed the former Baron.

    Follow me

She walked to dinner room and offered a seat

What brings you here, former baron?

OOC: Former Baron isn't really appropriate. I'm no more a former Baron than Henry and you are a former King and Queen.

Roger bowed and followed the Queen, taking a seat when offered. "Your Grace, your son is to be the King of England one day. I mean no offense when I say this, Your Grace, but his tutor is French. There is much bitterness between England and France.

My father made sure I knew my French, Latin, English, Geography and History. In addition to that, I am a skilled swordsman. I would like to request that you allow me to handle the education of your son.

With a French tutor, Prince Edward will have to work twice as hard to win the respect of his nobles than he would with a tutor who was English. Please entrust his education to me."

The Queen was surprised by this request, Margaret was very much known to be staunch pro-French, it was her birthplace after all, she was not inclined to bow for such a request, but she needed allies and a compromise was the best for all.

We did not expect you request, hmm, i see, you wanna educate my lovely son in English manners.

The Queen offered him a good cup of French wine.

Perhaps there might be a compromise? I will allow you to teach him the military arts but i will retain my French tutors for civic matter, that way we can assure him being a mix of French and English influenced.

Roger nodded quietly. "Of course, Your Grace. Understand I meant no disrespect upon your royal person, I was simply trying to aid your son in his ascension to the throne in years to come."

Roger supped the wine politely, careful always to be polite and mannerly. This was perhaps the best opportunity he had to usurp some favor from the King and Queen, while Somerset licked Scots' arse.

"If it please Your Grace, I will begin immediately."

Henry sat on his knees in the castle's chapel, praying before the altar. The king had spent several days in the chapel and discussing faith and theology with the chaplain. It was here he always felt at home, and he always had when the weight of his mind began bearing down on him. Praying cleared the mind of all evil thoughts and brought a man closer to God, as his tutors had taught him. Indeed, Henry did feel his spirit drift closer to the Lord in Heaven when he was alone in prayer. He prayed for the health and safety for his family and all the lords in England who had supported him. He prayed for those who had lost their lives in this pointless war, for those who had had everything taken from them. Most of all, Henry prayed for the death of Edward of March, the viper who had stolen England from him. Rarely had there been something that made Henry's blood boil by the mere thought of it, but York was certainly the exception. The fires of Hell take him, Henry thought before reverting back to praying for God's grace and mercy.

Baron Clifford quietly entered the chapel, and made his way towards the King. Kneeling, the Baron waited until the King was finished praying to speak. "Your Majesty... Are you well? I wish for you to know that House de Clifford are your ever loyal servants. Know that, even with Somerset in Scotland, you still have truly loyal followers standing at your back."

Henry smiled a weak smile at Clifford. With everything that had happened, the king felt very tired, but relieved. Relief from the presence of God, but also from Clifford's words. It was heartening to see men that were truly loyal and honourable. Henry nodded to the baron.

"Yes... I am fine, Lord Clifford. I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit around me, I fear not for my own safety. I only pray that those loyal and true to their oaths who could not come with us are safe. I thank you for your kind words, my lord. It fills me with joy that I have you here to aid my family. I will never forget the debt I owe to you and to my dear Somerset. How will your family and lands back in England fare, lord Clifford? I cannot imagine the traitor Edward would leave them be."

Roger's face twitched a little. "I sent my brothers into the service of the Earl of Oxford, under false names. I imagine what is left of my retainers will surrender my holdings once they are attained by March. Being the brother of the man who gutted his brother is perhaps not a boon."

Roger pondered for a second, before deciding to be bold. "Her Grace, Queen Margaret, has seen fit to appoint me the tutor of your son, Prince Edward, in all matters military. Despite this new task, please always be aware that I am here to advise you, should Your Majesty ever be stuck on a particular decision.

With luck, Sire, you shall be returned to your rightful place upon the English throne quickly. Before Edward of March has a chance to damage the Kingdom of England and her foreign affairs irrevocably."

"I shall pray for your brothers, my lord. I hope that you teach my dear Edward everything that he needs for manhood. I know that I can trust you as his tutor, my good lord. I am sure that I shall rely on you until dear Somerset returns to us, and I am sure the Lord will guide his sails once he has won Scotland's aid for us."

At the last words of Clifford, Henry nodded with a strained face.

"Yes, I am sure we will."

"Yes, I am sure we will."
"Thank you for your kindness in this matter, Your Majesty. I will not forget it."

Roger pauses for a second, before continuing on with his dialogue. "If I may be so bold, Your Majesty, perhaps an emissary to the Pope would be a strong move. Your piety is well known through Europe and he is sure to support a truly Christian Monarch of England - a man with the best interests of the Church at heart.

His influence would go a long way to persuading the various crowns of Europe to support you over Edward of March."

"Oh yes, that is an excellent idea, Lord Clifford. Any true Christian should see that March is nothing but a usurper and a traitor, and his Holiness would sway the silent clergy and the commoners who were afraid of corrupt men like the Archbishop of Canterbury, still tied to the earthly realm's matters."

Henry suddenly rose from the altar, though he swayed a bit from dizziness and to steady himself before continuing. He was beaming with joy.

"In fact, my dear Clifford, we should not send a mere emissary to the most holy successor of Saint Peter. I will journey to Rome myself! I have always wanted to journey to the Eternal City and meet with his Holiness, and now I have the perfect opportunity."

Said Beaufort, composed. Angiers cathedral was rather empty that time of the day, and the Queen's guardsmen had cleared the surroundings of Isabella's tomb. So, they didn't have to fear prying eyes.

"In return your son shall marry Mary Stewart, King James' sister and all the lands north the Elk in Cumbria shall be ceded to Scotland"
Henry, who had stayed silent during the discussion, lifted his head and turned to Beaufort. His eyes shined with interest and hope.

"So all we need, my dear Somerset, is for King Louis to agree to support us, and we can return to England? Praise the Lord, you are the greatest of men, my dear Somerset. Your loyalty to the true royal line will not be forgotten. What do you propose the next step should be? Margaret, what do you think?"

Henry took a moment to pause before continuing.

"When I was in prayer, Lord Clifford came and gave me an epiphany. I wish to go on a journey to Rome, to meet with his Holiness and request his most blessed support."

Clifford smiled quietly at the King. "Your Majesty, that would be a great move, but it would have more weight if the entire royal family went to Rome. The Pope would be impressed by your conviction.

Leave planning an invasion to both Duke Somerset and myself, Your Majesty, we shall be ready for your return."

The Queen was found mourning at the tomb of her deceased mother, some wounds never heal they say. Guards escorted Lord Beaufort to the tomb and the Queen was surprised by Beaufort's visit.

Do you come to mourn too, Lord Beaufort?

His father had long replaced her with Jeanne of Laval, thought.

The Queen touched the tomb as if her mother was still alive, making a small kiss on her mother's forehead before directing her attention to Lord Beaufort.

My God be always with you, mother.

René might have found a new wife but nobody could truly replace her own mother she thought. With this farewell she turned her attention to Lord Beaufort.

    Tell me about it.
