Default The Royal Chambers of Westminister

Here are the Royal Chambers of the King of England and France and Lord of Ireland. These chambers also house the royal family and the Queen within them.

    London's Bonuses

    • Palace of Westminster: This palace has not just been the official meeting place of Parliament since 1295, but it is also currently the official royal residence of England's sovereigns. In essence, it is the center of government for the entire country. Whoever controls it has quite the head-start on being considered England's legitimate monarch, not to mention control over the Kingdom's central administrative apparatus and access to Parliament. They can recruit troops at 75% the usual cost (though they must still pay full upkeep) and further enjoy +2 Charisma & +2 Levy rolls and +5% income.
    • Westminster Abbey: This consecrated church is of special significance to the English Crown, as it is where England's Kings are traditionally crowned since Henry III (and long before him, Harold Godwinson and William the Conqueror) and, also since Henry III, where most monarchs are laid to eternal rest. The controller gets +1 to reaction rolls when dealing with AI English nobles, and characters may also seek refuge within the abbey for up to 1 in-game year; unless permitted by the religious authorities, anyone who would do harm unto them on its consecrated ground will certainly have to face some consequences at the Church's hands.
    • Tower of London: Built by the Conqueror on the northern bank of the Thames as a symbol of his power and a safe base of operations, the Tower of London is actually a castle complex shielded by two walls and a moat. The White Tower which gives the whole place its name can also (and famously did) serve as a prison for enemies of whoever happens to control London. In case London's outer defenses falter, the surviving defenders can fall back here to hold out for another half-year (3.5 days). Prisoners locked up here also suffer -4 to escape rolls.
    • The People of London: As England's capital and largest city, London is home to more affluent and educated families (chiefly merchants) than most other parts of the country. These people have an independent streak and are unlikely to just roll over for any would-be invader unless given sufficient reason to stand down; if they must, they'll bar the gates and man the city's walls themselves, as they have done to repel the Lancastrians after Wakefield & 2nd St Albans out of fear of Marguerite d'Anjou's notoriously pillage-happy army. d10*d1000 Militia (75% Militia Longbows, 25% Militia Footmen) will spawn when the city comes under attack unless its people happen to actually like the attacker more than London's present controller and are confident that they won't sack the place upon victory.

    The King's Yeomen
The King has a special guard of Yeomen that attend him personally. Known as the King's Yeomen, or the Yeomen of the Crown, this guard is consisted of 1,000 Chesire Longbowmen that are free of upkeep. These royal yeomen serve as the King's bodyguard and ensure the security of his family as well as his royal person. No more than a 100 men can be detached and deployed alongside the King whenever he leaves London for diplomatic or military matters.

    London Buildings
    TIER I:
    - Logging Camp: gain access to Wood resource
    - Small Mine: gain access to Stone resource
    - (Coastal Only) Dockyard: Requires wood. +5% income, player might build ships.
    - Market Square: +5% income
    - Grain Mill: +5% income, +1 Charisma
    - Castle Smith: -5% professional troops’ upkeep and recruitment cost.

    TIER II:

John de la Pole visits the king, acompanied by his wife Elisabeth of York, Edward's sister.

    ----------------------------

Two young men arrive to the king's chamber, requesting an audience. They wear nooses around their necks and very humble clothes, however, they identified themselves as Edmund and Thomas Beaufort, brothers of the fallen Henry Beaufort, Duke of Somerset.

Everyone is welcomed, Earl of Kent may go first.

The brothers of Somerset have came to see me, this should be interesting, thought Edward.

"Your Grace." Fauconberg (now Kent) began formally, entering his Grace's private quarters. "I firstly wish you to know that I am at your disposal. There is much that needs to be discussed, both public and private matters." Kent was an experienced man, in both warfare and politics. He allowed the dust to settle before beginning. "Firstly, there is the matter of returning order to the North, a Lancastrian stronghold. Clifford's lands, now attainted, remain unaccounted for, and there is also the matter of the Scots lingering in Berwick, rightfully English land. I do not wish to trouble Your Grace of course, but there is no harm in bringing it to your attention." Again, he paused, wearing a weary smile that betrayed his fatigue. "And of course... The more personal matter. My nephew Warwick's daughters need the promise of a good future, robbed of their father as they are. Though they are yet young, it would be a great honour for one of them to be betrothed to your royal brother, the Duke of Clarence."

Yes, Earl of Kent. Do you wish to send a force to pacify Clifford's holding unless he surrenders? Also, yes, that would be a terrific idea about the marriage. It would have my blessing.

"Excellent." Allowing himself a small grin, he bowed his head in gratitude. "Indeed, that would be my intention, I and the Earl of Surrey could force Clifford's castle to surrender to Your Grace, to be granted to whomever you wish, of course."

    "We wish so"

Said a blonde woman, who wore a tall hennin and a richly-embroidered gown walking by the arm of an equally well-dressed man. Elisabeth of York and John de la Pole. Both bow slightly.

"Glad you could make room for us, brother"

Said the king's sister with a hint of irony on her voice. Elisabeth was the second surviving sister of Edward, born two years apart they had always been close.

"We are glad that your Grace can finally sit on the throne. Mortimer may now rest peacefully on his grave, for his heir is now King and York is triumphant"

Said de la Pole, a man as handsome as the King was, not as tall or strong, however.

Edward's face lit up when his sister entered.

My dear sister, it is always a joy to see you. There is always room here for you two!

Thank you John. I hope all is well with you.

I am okay. The Battle of Towton was horrible, an horrible sight to witness, but we won because of the bravery of our men and nobles. We lost dear Warwick though as you may have heard.

"We know, my King. The good Earl fought and died valiantly, he will be sorely missed. Only my wounded arm prevented me from joinning you at Towton, sire"

    Said de la Pole.

"How is that my husband is still bereft of his rightful title?"

Asked Elisabeth, frowning a little. He frowned much alike their mother, Cecily Neville, widow duchess of York.

"Twelve years since my father-in-law died and still I cannot rightfully call myself Duchess of Suffolk. I do not care about what the Commons may think: I am know the King's sister and only a dukedom befits my status"

William de la Pole had been executed in 1450 by the Parliament, for his failures in France, accused of high treason.

"We came to you seeking the restoration of my honors, your Grace"

Added John. Edward hadn't bestowed any rewards upon his brother-in-law either and Elisabeth was genuinely offended, certainly de la Pole hadn't contributed to Towton's victory, but still he was the King's brother by marriage.

I know, my dear sister, and brother in law. I have stripped several nobles of their titles, including Clifford and Pembroke. The former will be taken care of shortly. I can give you his estates, and have better ones build for you two that correctly befits your status as my sister and brother in law.

"We are thankful, your Grace. We only came here seeking the restoration of Suffolk itself... you honor us"

    Said Suffolk, pleased.

"To serve your Grace in any capacity will be a pleasure. We are anxiously waiting the coronation ceremony, so you might finally be annointed as King of England and France"

    Elisabeth nodded and smiled.

"And you might not know, brother, but I recently had a son who we called John, he's barely nine months old but already has a head covered in blonde hair! I daresay he had our father's nose"

I will restore your title John. Congratulations! And I will give you the estates and title that used to belong to the former and current enemy Baron Clifford.

Yes, I heard! Congratulations sister! I am sure he is a handsome devil. Bless your child, sister.

    "God bless you, my Sovereign"

    Said Suffolk.

"Our next son shall be named Edward in your honor, sire"

The golden-haired duke, so similar yet so different to the king, spoke so.

"Aye brother, yet another scion of the House of York shall be baptised Edward, if God blesses us with another child"

They bow to the King, but Elisabeth smiled with malice:

"Brother, you must find yourself a Queen worthy of the title, but do not marry another troublesome French She-Wolf"

She said, making a reference to the infamous Margaret, who they all hated so fiercely.

    "We bid you farewell, brother"

    ----------------------------

The Beauforts, wearing rags and nooses around their necks are the next to wait an audience. The nooses symbolized the king had control over their life and death and such was a symbol of hummility, of willful humilliation to the monarch. Once in the King's presence they fall to their knees and wait for Edward to address them; both are fairly young, the eldest being only twenty and the youngest a teenager.

Default Re: The Royal Chambers of Westminister

The Duke of Norfolk, after Kent's, Suffolk's and Beauforts' audiences, enters the royal chambers and makes a slight bow.

"Your Grace, I pray the Lord's blessing be with you today and always. I hope you fare well, it seemed that you a bit strained in parliament before, if I may assume such. Your Grace is young and strong still, it must
merely have been some temporary dizziness or the like."

The Lord Chancellor carried a few scrolls and documents with him, which he brought forth.

"Now your Grace, there are several political issues that we need to discuss. While winning a throne is heroic work, it is also costly work and the realm has yet to recover. We are going to have to raise taxes sooner or later, but right now bringing the rule of law and order back to England should be of utmost importance. While you are popular among the commoners, such support is a fickle thing and always rests on a knife's edge. To appoint royal officials who are capable for their positions, from sheriffs to judges and so forth, is a tedious but necessary task."

Among the many scrolls were a map of Europe.

"Then, as always, the foreign royal courts must always be held in consideration. Scotland and France have always been a thorn in England's side, and now is no different. Especially now, to be more exact, since these two countries would love to see a weak Henry of Lancaster on the throne instead of yourself, your Grace. As you remember, Scotland even offered soldiers to Margaret, who then proceeded to raid and plunder throughout England before going home with their pockets full of English gold. The French on the other hand are Margaret's countrymen, so without a doubt they would welcome a Lancaster pretender so that they may influence the royal court. There are of course potential friends and enemies in other places, but these two are of course England's principal foes."

With that little introduction, Norfolk turned to the king.

"There is also the greatest issue of all right now, your Grace, which concerns your family. You have yet to marry and produce an heir. Henry of Lancaster, if I may be so bold to mention him to you, faced the same dilemma before he married and had a son. A king without an heir is a king who sits loosely on his throne, for there are always others who covets what he has. We must find you a proper wife, your Grace, one from a noble house of good descent. A princess from a foreign court would perhaps be the best option."

"I understand if your Grace feels that this is a lot to take in at this moment, but do not worry. As your Lord Chancellor, I will always be here to give advise to your Grace whenever you request it."

Lord Chancellor, welcome. I already thought about the latter two issues. Now, on the subject of the former, perhaps you could help me with appointing judges and the like? As for Europe, I believe we should first start off speaking with Burgundy and our friends in the Holy Roman Empire. Perhaps we can "encourage" them to assist us against at least France while we can deal with Scotland. Would you agree?

As for a wife.... Yes, my sister just mentioned it. Help me find a good wife so I can get married as soon as possible. Maybe someone from the Holy Roman Empire for example? I want someone the most Anti-French around if possible. It could help us. Also, when can I get my coronation arranged?
