Black screen on start up

Hello to anyone who reads this, just recently downloaded M2 total war again and on start up its just a black screen but the audio is running in the background for some reason. Got it on steam looooong ago, checked my drivers and they're updated and i checked other games i have in my library and they work just fine its seems its with this game, neither the vanilla or kingdoms seems to work, any ideas that could help me out?

The video drivers for this game are ancient and should not be a problem. Two suggestions:

1. verify the integrity of your game cache
2. delete the medieval2.preference.txt file in the root of the game as well as the preferences sub folder in there - both will generate again at a new game start, but make a backup of them just in case.

After that try once more.

thanks for the reply. it seems it was my display drivers that were on the fritz and needed an update it seems to be working now much appreciated
