i have bought or will be buying a portable video player that plays avi's and wmv's divx etc.

my question is,

is their any program that can rip the film off the dvd and put it onto my computer so i can put it on my portable player, id hate to be a theif and download ilegaly but i also dont want to pay to download a movie I already own,
