Default Advice on temp/fan speed ratio for video card

I've been having a lot of trouble with my X1900XTX for awhile now. It 'stutters' without a loss of framerate, or shuts down at times in MTWII. I think it's due to my fan speeds not being properly regulated, so I decided to give it a go in the ATI tray toolkit.

I have 8 slots of Temperature (I am assuming Celsius, but it does not list it), with 8 slots of fan speed % in connection to the temp. I can't quite tell if it's overclocking or not, but I think heat is being a real issue with this card.

What I'm asking advice on is what sort of fan speed % I should be going for in relation to a specific temp range. I think at 100% Fan speed, my RPMs are around 6500 (And it runs like a lawnmower), and at about fifty the RPM is 3360.

Well I try to keep my temperature below 80C, so what I do is temperature at 0C is 50%, temperature at 70C is 80%, and temperature at 80C is 100%. Whenever the temperature reaches over 80C, the fan kicks in 100% and brings it right down, so it seems to work pretty well.

You could add some extra steps in there, like 50C at 60% or something, but personally when the fan changes speed all the time it's just annoying.

    @Ahiga,

These settings will work well, they are the ones I use for my X850XT...

    GPU Temp / Fan Speed

    05-35c____ 15%
    35-40c____ 25%
    40-45c____ 45%
    45-50c____ 60%
    50-55c____ 75%
    55-60c____ 90%
    60-65c____ 100%
    65-95c____ 100%

Because the X1900XTX is one of, if not, the hottest running VC, so you will generally be operating at 100% most of the time. What Tray Tools will do for you is allow you to give your VC's fan a break while the card is idle, thus extending it's life. You shouldn't notice the scaling, and when the fan is full on, you'll be in the heat of battle and probobly wouldn't notice anyway! ATI Tray Tools is a must for anyone using an ATI video card. Hope this helps....

I'll give those a try soon Hadrian, right now the setup I have is relatively decent, and keeps from being at 100%, though it does reach into the 50s or 60s. When it reaches 70 is when I force it to 90-100% to force it down

    Currently mine is:

    0C - 36
    40C - 50
    50C - 68
    60C - 82
    70C - 91%
    80-100C - 100

The reason is right now the noise is killing me, as well I don't yet have noise-blocking headphones, and am not sure my speaker setup at full blast will be able to nullify the effects of the noise. I do think I might be upgrading in the near future next year, given this heat seems to be almost negating the power of the video card. Less so now that I am actually using the fans instead of relying on Catalyst to do it for me.

    Thanks for your help!
